I am trying to get setup to take my Black Badge course in May and just Bought the new Remington 1911 R1 Enhanced ( .45 ). Any opinions on how good of a gun this will be for IPSC? I have ordered an Ambi Safety for it and just your basic Holster to start out.

Make sure you have 4 working mags and pouches and then make sure the gun will run 100%. Nothing more frustrating than fighting a gun that won't work while you are trying to learn the skills.
Wait until after the course to start doing mods, find out what you need. Lots of shooters waste money on parts that don't help.
Consider adding a magwell, but that's about it. The times are so liberal now that you shouldn't need one to pass.

I just bought a 1911 for IPSC too

Its a single stack .45 and I wondering should I buy Wilson Combat 10 round mags or just stick with 8 round. are there regulation in regard to this???

thoughts?

Dan

Buy the 8's. Classic division is limited to 8 in the mag for major (.45) which is the division best suited to that gun. You could run it in limited but it won't fit in the box with the 10 rounders so you are still limited to 8. The only division you could run the 10's in is Open an I don't think you want to start there...

thanks for the info

That makes sense,

so 10 rounders for say a 9mm 1911?

Psst............standard.

Your USPSA side is showing.

That is what I thought, I figured shooting weak hand I would need the ambi safety so I thought I would start with that. The gun has a bit of a bevel in the mag entrace already so hopefully that should help some. I know where I can get a mag well quickly if I need it.

The gun run's 100%. I have put 200 rounds through it already and not one issue. Any suggestions for mag's for the gun. I just have two factory mags that came with the gun. They run well but I will still need at least three more mags.

You don't need the magwell for the course so don't worry about it. Chip McCormick mags are good. But for the course, some good quality 8 rounders will do.

it would be a good gun for Single stack or Classic division, and a decent gun for standard. >45 ammo can get expensive,...so I hope you reload. Where are you located?

I run Wilson mags, they've always been pretty solid, mine are the old 47d's haven't tried his new mags yet.

think I went through 400+ rounds at the BB course, make sure to factor that into your BB course costs

You're on the right track, best is to run your basic holster and gun as PH suggests and then take your time before you go hog wild with spending money, go to some matches, practice and take your time before changing everything on you gun or holster setup.

and beware everyone will have lots of advice, which is normally contradictory!!

I started with a 1911A1 it is doable but not ideal for ipsc. Do to a ruling 10 rounders are out using them bumps you to open, A double stack mag gives a larger target opening for your mag changes, and ammo is more expensive. I shot my 1911a1 for a few years before switching to a cz.

Pssst, we now have Classic division which is specifically for 8 round single stacks. Read the rest of the thread.
