Hello. I just acquired a Gevarm with two magazines. It has the crinkly black receiver. Can someone help me determine which model it is? It came with two mags, one of each size. Pic makes it look good, which it actually is. Thanks in advance for any replies. Also, what would this rifle bring for price?

I forgot to add that it has a Gevarm scope, 3-7x15, marked Made in Japan for Gevelot of Canada, Ltd Saskatoon, Sask, Canada.

there ya go

Gevarm .22rf rifles Model E1, E2, A3, A4 and A6 all fire on the open bolt with only 3 moving parts. Models E1 and E2 are take-down versions and have alloy receivers painted with crinkle black paint. All others have steel receivers. The milled ridge in the face of the bolt is the "firing pin" giving it a very effective "DOUBLE ignition." The lips of the magazine act as the "ejector" while the blow-back is the "extractor." Only the E1 and E2 models will accomodate both 8-rd. and 20-rd. mags with no modification to the mag well. The E models are fantastic little fun guns and seem to eat anything in lr. The E1 sold for $49.50 at Kmart in the '60s. Extra mags (either capacity) were $10. A 20-rd mag is now in the $175 - $200 range - when you can find them.

Bit of clarification here. I've been told the only difference in the E1 and E2 is that the E1 was intended for export to North America and due to our laws they did NOT thread the muzzle for surpressors.

Here's a pic of the four different .22rf models Gevarm made. This info is taken direct from one of their pamphlets.

And, yes, the E1s are great little guns which will eat about anything. Remember, the recoil spring guide can be reversed for the various ammo velocities.

I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other. ;)

They are a very popular little rifle in Canada. I know several people (including myself) who have one. The mags are hard to come by, so don't lose them! There's been times when the mags were worth more than the rifle.

What is the differance between the A3 and the A7 I have one of them but not sure which one?

Hey, Vince. According to information from the Gevarm pamphlet, AND the S.I.R. catalog from the '70s, although the two guns LOOK a lot alike, they're very different. The A3, like the E1, has no firing pin and fires on the open bolt. The A7 has a firing pin and fires on the closed bolt.

A minor difference I noted was that the front sight inserts furnished were 4 on the A3 and 6 inserts with A7. Both guns use the 8-round magazine. The 20-rd mags fit only the E1 with no modification to the receiver. I'm told you can modify the other models to accomodate the 20-rd.

By the way, I've located another manufacturer of magazines and will check with them on cost of reproducing both mags for the Gevarms. Will let everyone know IF anything comes of it.

Then I have the A7! What is the A7 worth in mint condition can anyone tell me?

Thanks

vince, down here ALL Gevarms have been going quite high - average $500. BUT, I haven't seen any even offered since the new Obama Economics took over.

Sorry I can't help you on an estimate. Probably lower priced in Canada, but you'll need some feedback from the GunNutz guys up there.

Here's a pic of my A7.

That's some kind of scope you got there!

I've had most of the Gevarm models. The A6 would take 20 shot mags with out modification. If you want your E1 to shoot good glass bed the barrel and mount a pistol scope on the barrel. Mounting a scope on the receiver is a waste of time.

Can14, thanks for that info. That's also the first one I've seen with the Gevarm stamped on the spine. I had to go check it out for myself. Here's URL for those interested

In that case, the guy in Canada who sent me this photo a few years ago of his accumulation of Gevarm mags, has a fortune in his hands. :)

Can14, you say, "...my E2 Export Gevarm .22's." Since you pluralized .22, this begs the question, does that mean you have several - more than one????

Also, what do you say the difference is between the E1 and E2?

I was told what we've received in North America, known as E1s, are actually the Model E2 for export because the muzzle is not threaded. Any comment?

Thanks for info. :)
