according to reddit,[h=2]Punt guns were used for duck hunting at the turn of the last century. A single shot could kill up to 50 waterfowl resting on the surface of a pond or lake.[/h]

Is that a muzzle loader? I've seen some large shotguns in a museum, that were made to sit on a mount on a boat. Shells the size of a soda can.

They weren't a shoulered gun, but in fact tied to the punt, and there are numerous accounts of these guns blowing out the transoms on recoil of older boats !!

I'm sure that was WWI Canadian Artillery. LOL!!! Seriously, punt guns were used on small water vessels and when times were good shot was utilized. During the great depression in the 1930's shot was replaced by nuts, bolts, nails, rocks etc. All ducks sold at 25 cents each except for the canvasback, it sold for 50 cents each because they were better tasting and a little plumper.
