years ago when young i taught my wife to shoot 22 rifles - at gophers.
we where both farm kids so i figured she would take to it and she did.
she never continued on with it but years later when she got this prepping bug HARD i told her she had better train up on a pistol and a rifle or shotgun if she truly wanted to be ready for her prepping lifestyle.
to my surprise she agreed!
what happened next really surprised me, i tried to get her into my Glock 17 and he didnt like it.
so i than tried to get her into my M&P with a small grip on it and again she didnt like it at all.
she seemed to be having a real problem racking the slide.
it just wasnt something she felt natural doing.
on a whim i asked her if she wanted to try a wheel gun.
she lit up and was VERY excited about that!
i dont shoot wheel guns very much if at all but i do have a couple in the safe that ive picked up over the years.
since i dont shoot them much she didnt even know i had any.
so i offered her a 22 six shooter to try and she skipped right by that one and pointed to my Ruger GP100 357mag.
i told her that was gonna be way too much for her.
but she insisted.
so we went to the range the next day when the kids where all at school and she took to that gun like a duck to water!
i started her on 38's and she nibbled out the middle of the target with no effort.
i asked her if she wanted to try some 357mag and she asked if that was what the gun was suppose to shoot and i told her yes, if you ever did have to use the gun for real you would want to be using the 357mag.
so she was like "hell ya, i want the real thing!"
so i loaded up the 357mag and she blazed away with it!
i was expecting the jump and snap of it to put a scare in her but she double tapped her way through the cylinder and turned to me with a massive smile on her face!
"reload that NOW!" she yelled!
ever since then a couple times a year when i say im heading to the range she will run get the GP100 out of the safe and run down and hop into the truck and start honking the horn and yelling for me to hurry up its her monthly re-certification time.
crazy girl.
fast forward and i decided i wanted to teach my 2 daughters on how to be gun safe.
after a winter of teaching them how to identify a rifle and make it safe and such i asked them if they wanted to actually go and shoot, they said yes.
took them out with some 22's and they had fun.
when we got home i asked them if they had enough fun that they might want to get into shooting.
i was surprised when they said that they where kinda disappointment..... they wanted to shoot pistols not rifles, they thought they where not allowed or something.
i went and got some 22 pistols out of the safe and took them back to the range and man did they have fun!
when we got home my one daughter said she wanted to try MY pistols next time.
so i let her.
and she out shot me!
girls are fun!
i had asked my girls couple years back if they wanted a 'muddy girl' colored Browning Buckmark Pistol.
they informed me that guns are not suppose to be pink.
silly me!
pics from a couple years ago.
i love this pic with the glittery fingernail polish on the freshly redone stock.
