Didn't even know this existed until it came up on an FB auction this morning, and I'm going to take a flyer at getting it, even though I have my suspicions it will rapidly head out of my price range.

Apparently, a small number of SVT-40's were converted to .303 British sporters after the war. This one has the receiver grooves for a scope mount.

So, this one's a bit of an odd duck. How high would the smart guys in here go on something like this?

A travesty. Globeco ruined a whole bunch of SA marked SVT-40's to build a POS rifle that has feeding and extraction problems. I would only own one as a reminder that bubbas have no shame.

I see them quite often for $400 and up, and they stay with sellers for long time. More like curio. I don't have and will never have one.

I'd say a couple hundred. But that's more for the receiver than anything since you could buy a parts gun and make a pretty decent sniper out of it

Good to know. Thanks guys.

If I can get it for under $400 I'll take it on the curio factor, if it heads north of that, I'll let it walk.

I would not take the risk on some crappy gun auction.

There has been a Globeco 555 for sale in the "hunting arms" section of the EE for some time.
It is still there, (9am PST May 20th), it looks better, and the seller seems open to offers. Not to mention his 140+ positive feedback.

Don't get caught up buying something you normally would not just because it is in an auction.

A travesty is being polite. Wouldn't touch a Globco Mohawk for any amount. Most of 'em have bad headspace. Globco 'converted' 'em but with zero QC because at the time there was no 7.62 x 54R ammo available other than high priced Norma. Some twit thought you could just modify the chambers and everything would be fine. No thought of or checking headspace to ensure the rifles were safe to shoot.

have owned a couple of these over the years . they are ok as a curio or the occasional trip to the range .tying up more than $300. in a firearm that might never work is questionable.

I heard that FB site is full of fools with money.
I need to start selling on it.

Can someone please PM the link for the group.

Cheers

Can someone please PM me a link too !

pm's inbound.

I've been a member for a while, this is the first auction that really caught my eye. Pricing is usually way, WAY worse than the EE - I've seen some brutal Bubba jobs go for more than a quality original conditions.

Will take a pass on this. Thanks for the advice

I've gotten a deal or two on that site but everytime I see an enfield I think wow that went way too much. Lots of fools and money

Did you see the SVT with the "custom" cammo paint job on there the other day?

That one made me want to reach through the interwebs and smack the guy that did it.

Was it only SVT-40, or did they destroy the MUCH rarer SVT-38 as well?
