Glock 17 Gen 4 ... broken firing pin?

I bought my Glock 17 Gen 4 back in September 2013 from Wolverine. Great pistol, love it.

Since then I've put slightly over 3000 rounds through it. I was at the range about a month ago and started getting the odd light strike / failure to fire. Re-chambering the rounds that failed to fire would enable me to fire them on the second try. Didn't really pay it any mind, just thought it was the ammo... but I was a little curious since it only started halfway through the case of ammo..... also had a box of different stuff and it happened a couple times on that too.

Anyway, today I went to clean the sucker and I noticed there is a nice little piece missing from the tip of the firing pin. From what I can tell from the (crappy low-res) pictures on the interwebs, it's not supposed to have a chip in the tip of the pin like mine does.

Anybody ever had this issue before? Anybody able to offer some advice on warranty coverage in Canada? I don't mind buying a new firing pin, and it would be even better to have a second warranty-replaced one as backup. Mostly I want to know if this will be recurring problem I can expect in the future.

Never had this problem on my Glocks..... On a glock its not a firing pin but a striker. I don't know who manage the warranty in Canada but just send an email to glock and they'll tell you. I've never had to deal with warranty on Glocks ;)

If you want to buy a new striker you can go at: Rock your glock" they ship to Canada. If you can post picture of your striker it would help to tell you if its that...... Because light strike can also be due to the striker spring or "gunk" in the striker channel inside your slide.

Police ordinance is no longer the distributor. Contacting them (if they reply) will be a waste of time.
Contact wolverine and they will tell you who to call. The guys at wverine are glock fans so most likely you will get your part from them.

Contact Korth group and they will either get you one or put you incontact with the rep. I know the reps name but dont want to put his name here without his permission.

A pic would be nice.

X2
better off just ordering a new striker and spring along with a good cleaning.

This is actually a very common problem for Glocks now, they started using MIM (metal injection molded) strikers late Gen 3 in some models, and as I understand it all Gen 4's. A quick read of US forums and googling will show a lot of the same failures you've had. Nothing's perfect, and Glocks are just another gun, they break too. I'd buy aftermarket, to get around factory MIM parts.

okay thanks a lot everyone for the info. I've been looking at aftermarket options all morning, any recommendations regarding steel vs stainless steel vs titanium? (funny enough the pistol still works with the striker as it is being damaged and all....)

I don't think buying aftermarket will make it any better.
I have over 7k over my glock and never heard of this.

Yes it is mim, but not sure if putting aftermarket stuff voids your warranty?

??

From what I could tell on the Glock USA website, stripping the pistol down any further than the instructions in the manual voids your warranty. as in removing parts from the slide. or living outside the US for that matter.
