Just curious, what'd you use to take off the finger grooves, et al.?
I'd like to know as well. I've been hanging on to my 2nd generation G17 because I hated the finger grooves, but I miss out on the rail. I might have to "hoodie-ize" a newer G17.

I used a sanding drum in my drill press to take the grip down. From there I used a smaller drum in my Dremel. It does take time and you can only go so fast. Taking too much off is something you don't want to do. So I took a bit, tested it for fit and grip, then took some more. The stippling does take forever. Not bad if you have about 5 or so hours to spare.
