GLOCK 17, SIG P226, BERETTA 92FS Three great sidearms. But which to purchase.

I personally own a glock and have shot the other two on numerous occasions. But I keep wondering if I should have gotten a 92fs but for the simple reason that I like the feel of cold hard steel and the idea of having an actual hammer. All 3 pistols are battle proven with a great reputation, but the feel of each is very different. But I would buy a Sig in a jiffy if I was willing to spend 1200-1400 $ for a pistol... they are just beauties, ollot of different styles to choose from and the double stack calibers are very nicely sized for my big mits. I suggest going to a range where you can try all 3 and then wheigh the pros and cons of each. People's opinion are one thing yours an other. Theres Mercedes, porsche, audi, bmw and so on... each will tell you they prefer one to the others for their own reasons. Good luck.

My first pistol was a 92 compact. I've also owned a Sig P-225 and a Glock 20. I've got a Girsan on the way and will likely add a Glock 34 to the safe one day. The only reason I don't have a Sig is I just can't justify the cost.

My point, go pick up one of each and the one that fits your hand best is the one to buy...

I have shot them all and find that the Glock just doesn't feel all that impressive. I did not like the trigger on the Beretta, but it was hard to find fault with the Sig. Your mileage may vary.

SIG Pros
-Accurate
-Combat proven to work under the worst cond. and grunt abuse
-can change grips to suit you
-Nitron Finish is very good

SIG negs
-Exter SIGs QC is hit and miss
-High bore axis adds to more jump
-long reset "unless you install SRT"
-good DA shots require lots of range time

Glock Pros
-Cheap
-Gen4 has adj back straps
-low bore axis
-Accurate
-5.5lb DA only trigger
-Short reset
-Combat Proven by SOF units

Glock Negs
-New Gen4 slide finish sucks ballz
-stock sights blow
-can not shot lead bullet in OEM barrel
-not forgiving to bad reloaders who like to save movey by bowing guns up

Beretta M9 Pros
-Accurite
-good finish

Beretta M9 Negs
-Hated by Combat troops and rightly so, jams in the worst conditions "range or duty gun no problems"
-QC sucks, I have seen many decocking pawls break and locking blocks
-Long and heavy
-Front sight is fixed and non removable WTF beretta!
-Safe is on the slide which make tap racks truely a S*#t show when you safety goes on by mistake

Its sad when a Beretta Armourer does not like the gun :p

If you want a great steel frame gun, look at the CZ line of pistols, They are on par with any Swiss made Sig IMO

Both the front and rear sights on the new Beretta pistols are easy to replace.
Parkerized grey, smooth finish on the new Glock is in my opinion actually much better for anything, maybe except for taking the pictures.
It's more grippy (sweaty hands and old teflon like finish are not working together very well), it's not as shiny which is a big plus for any self-defense or police gun, harder by a few points on Rockwell scale then old Tennifer and as rust resistant as in the past (Tennifer is no longer allowed as a chemical process in North America as it's extremely hard on environment - it's still just fine in Europe BTW).
Fact that parkerizing is easy to scratch has nothing to do with the actual rust resistant finish which is under the parkerizing and is a part of the metal surface itself.
You can wear off the parkerizing and it still won't rust.
Glock trigger can be modified to nearly any combination EASILY.
From 3.5 lbs to 12 lbs with longer or shorter reset, crisper trigger pull and the aftermarket barrels are also easy to buy and fairly inexpensive.
The same goes for the trigger reset kit - inexpensive way to have a lot of quality trigger time with no ammo cost involved.

All are good and very different from each other and I like each one of them for different reasons with my least favourite being the Beretta.
You gotta try them all, specially the alloy & steel frame guns to really appreciate a good polymer pistol. It something you gotta try for yourself to figure out.

The Glock is the utilitarian, less-maintenance gun with cheap parts and easy mods, but apparently doesn't fit hands well.

The Sig is the ultra reliable, refined and smooth battle pistol, just needs slightly more maintenance on the frame rails (grease) and the finish doesn't seem to hold up as nice as Glock's.

I voted with my wallet in 9 pistols...except my third one was a CZ instead. :D

The Beretta is a beautiful pistol, but friggin heavy.....some people like a stout handgun, but I'm a bit of a sissy pants and prefer polymer. Can't go wrong with a Sig.....but they're a little pricy and to tell you the truth, aren't worth the money in my opinion, but if you can find a nice pre owned and save a couple hundred bucks, it's a good choice. As mentioned I like polymer, but don't have enough range time with my Gen 4 G17 to give a solid evaluation.....BUT....these things are like a Transformer...there is so much you can do with a Glock it's ridiculous....so I gotta say go with a Glock....even if you find it isn't for you, it will sell very quickly, unlike the Beretta or Sig

Just so you know your SIG does not need to be babied, No grease needed just oil if you feel like ;) I have seen hundreds of SIG with well over 100,000 though them with little slide wear and they were oil once in a blue moon. "got to love Soldier and there gun abuse to prove how good a gun is :)"

same with a lot of the forum sponsors. Have no ice why you would put 20 pages of guns that you've may be ever had in stock once and a quantity of 1. You think the selection is awesome until you realize that its like 13 handguns lol

I've got the 92A1 and a P226 (40 S&W). I'm currently looking for a Glock 17. I'm not under the illusion that my pistols are for anything other than the range so I'm not worried about "to hell and back reliability". I don't particularly care that my Berreta would fail-to-feed or otherwise malfunction if it was first buried in mud or tossed in a swamp. But if you're worried about that kind of thing: well you can't go wrong with the Glock OR the Sig (according to YouTube?).

If you get the Sig you won't be disappointed but I would recommend getting new magazines because the stock ones have poor springs and as a result you may have issues failing to feed certain types of ammunition.

The Beretta will also not disappoint unless you're a 1911 guy (working theory) in which case the DA pull will drive you nuts. I was worried going in that the trigger would be horrendous but my gamble paid off: the DA pull was fine and marginally heavier than my 226. However If you are looking for that "light, crisp" pull -> save your money and buy a decent 1911.

I've only shot the Glock 22 Gen 4. I can't speak to the 17 but I want one so take from that what you will.

In the end, after whichever gun you purchase, it's likely you will turn around and look for one of the others. That's just how this game works. I buy one and then look forward to the other.

Ideally you'd get all 3, but being price conscious I'd go with a Glock. The best advice that's been given throughout these pages is go somewhere where you can test all 3 and figure out which one works best for you. Putting aside the issue of money my first choice would be the Sig, then another Sig, then Glock, then Sig, Glock, and lastly would be Beretta. I grew up wanting to get myself a Beretta (watched all the Lethal Weapon movies when I was younger), but when I finally got to shoot it I was sorely disappointed. Good luck with your choice though!

I've owned all 3 at the same time...loved them all.

Sometime down the road, I sold them all.

The only one I missed and have repurchased was the Sig.

All three are very good, my suggestion is to go and hold each one. Decide by how it fits in your hands. The Beretta has a larger grip than the other two.
Good Luck!
