I just bought my first handgun about a month ago, I originally wanted a 19, but because I was not a member of a range yet I just went to a local store that actually had Glocks in stock. Most online stores were asking for a range membership in the check out. Anyways I went to Target sports bought a 17 gen4 on the spot and signed up for their ranger membership. Now I have already totally modded out the 17

I put a the following in my 17
ZEV ultimate trigger kit in it
ZEV titanium extended slide release
ZEV titanium frame pin kit
ZEV aluminum back plate
ZEV extended mag release
OEM glock extended slide lock

And I have the following on order with ZEV, they told me 60-90 days to manufacture my slide
Zev dragonfly slide with true co-witness RMR cut
KKM barrel, fluted, ZEV logo and flag machined on side and top, black DLC coated
Zev comp sights
Zev recoil spring kit with 2 color coded springs and a SS guide rod
Trijicon RMR dual illuminated green 9. moa dot

Now I Am looking to buy another handgun and start the next project, I was thinking of getting the 19 now that I am a member of a range I can order it from one of the online companies. I was also planning to do a 21, so I am trying to decide weather I should do the 19 next or switch it up and do the 21 since its a different caiber and frame size. ZEV told me they wont be able to make me a 21 slide till December, the 19 I could start ordering stuff right away..I am just wondering is it worth having both a 17 and 19? Do most people that have one own the other, and if they do which one do they prefer? And for the Glock heads out there if it was your choice and you had a 17 what would you buy for your 2nd the 19 or the 21?

Id probably go with the cheapest 19 possible as I dont really care what barrel it comes with because I would be swapping it out for a custom KKM from ZEV anyways. I see Questar has one with a black lone wolf barrel in stock, and Wolverine has one with a threaded factory glock barrel.

The 21 I could just drive up to the range and buy it with cash, and pick it up 4 days later like I did with the 17....Impulse buy lol

I have average sized hands and find G17 fits my hand better than G19, I like longer grips. btw I used to have a G23 and ended up selling it for that reason, not like I can carry it and I shot my G22 better.

If you can get a 12(6) G19 and an ATC then it is way worth it. Great shooter, good pointability....normal Glock goodness. However, other than the grip argument, there is no real advantage to a G19 vs, a 17 due to the fugly barrel and no difference in mag cap now. You already own a tricked out 17 so unless you want to play akimbo with 2 Glocks or have a Glock fetish, I would spend the cash on a different class of gun....like a 1911 in .45!!

I just picked up a custom glock 19 and sold my 17.

If you already have so much invested in your 17, no need for a 19. The are basically the same gun, the 19 is a little smaller.

Maybe look into some other platforms? M&Ps, Beretta 92's..... and theres nothing more addicting than 1911's

Dont like 1911 styling, If I go with a better brand .45 it will be a H&K or FN, but I plan to buy those later on in my shooting career...I am new to firearms so for me the glocks are like the Honda civic of guns, easy to mod and work on yourself, and because its a cheap gun there is lots to upgrade. Where as from what I have seen there isnt as much out there for the better brand names...

I will probably end up owning 10 Glocks and a few other handguns, just trying to decide in what order for the Glocks .. Not interested in buying a different brand yet, that will probably be my 3rd or 4th handgun purchase

Did you get to try the 19 before you bought it? I have no way to hold the 19 in my hand unless I find someone local that owns one. The only shops that seem to sell them are online stores.

The only reason I bought the 17 over the 19 is because it was what they had at the store in 9mm for my first glock purchase...If they had the 19 Id most likley have bought one instead

Also what gen? I got the gen4 17 and most of the 19's Im seeling are gen4 also

I prefer G17. I cant see myself buying G19 as you will need at least legal barrel length that would pertrude pass the slide. Personally, I cant stand barrel pertruding pass the slide. Does not give a realistic feel of the real G19.

I shot a buddies 19 before I bought it. Mine is the lipseys exclusive FDE Glock 19 Gen 4. It is also the newest Gen 4 edition w/ 4 backstraps instead of 2.

The older Gen 4 guns, came with 2 back straps.

Nice to hear you are a member a Target Sports, I am also a member there.

The 19 is nice but difficult to spend the money on if you already own a 17. Most of the 19s I see around are gen3

$750-1000 isnt a big investment IMO, when I starting thinking about getting into shooting I was expecting to pay way more then that for a handgun......As you can see my 17 is brand new and I already spent about $3500 on it including the gun itself. And I am already looking to purchase another one and put $2000 into it to customize it......So that being said $600-1500 for the gun itself is not a problem, got the cash burning a hole in my pocket as I type

Handguns are not expensive, its the rifles that Im gonna need a bigger budget for, the rifle I want is $4500 and comes with no sights lol Thats a $7000+ project right there with accessories and optics.

Cool maybe I'll see you there one day, if I see anyone with a 19 there Im gonna ask to shoot it anyways! lol

My 17 is a newer one then also, it came with 4 back straps, but I feel most comfortable right now with none of them on it...

Curious since you sold the 17 is the 19 the only Glock or handgun you own now? Or do you have others? Also what vendor did you get the 19 from and what barrel?

I currently Only own the 19Gen4 and 27Gen4.

I have the 27 up for sale right now. I am going to keep the 19 and buy another 17 and a 26.

My 27 however has a conversion barrel to shoot 9mm out of it.

Trust me, glocks are such a modular firearm. You can run glock 17 mags in both the 26 and 19. Most glocks also share parts, so you can switch sights etc between them

Kinda feel scammed I did not realize the GLocks we buy here arent made in Austria anymore, I did not even realize that till I got home and played with it and noticed USA on it...Not that I know if there is a quality difference or not, but I was expecting a real Glock bought brand new to be made in Austria

My new 19 is austrian made. U.S and Austrain made are almost the same gun, but the finish on the slide is different.

I however will only ever own Austrian stamped, but that is because I'm quirky lol.

Most new glocks now are going to be U.S made.

Yeah after I realized the USA I did some reading and it seems the biggest difference is the coating on the slide, the process in Austria uses chemicals that are banned in the US, so the US Glocks get a slightly different coating...
I plan to change the slide out on the next one I buy anyways, so I dont mind the USA marking since it will be a spare....I am like you however, I would pay extra to get a Austrian one now that I know

Be careful with SIGs if you ever buy one. Most, not all, are US made too!

I have nothing against made in USA, heck I spent $2500 on parts that are all made in the USA.....its just the brand is originally european, its like me buying a Mercedez benz and its made in the USA.....You get the brand, but do you get the same quality? Who knows maybe its even better...

Personally being in the manufacturing business myself, all my machinery is from Japan or Germany, it cost way more then north american made machines but my oldest CNC is from 1999 and it still cuts like new. Where I see other competitors that bought north american machines always having break downs...I have come to prefer Japanease and European made products over the years

Also I have read that Glocks made in USA are for export outside USA, so if I get a 19 it should or very well could be marked Austria because they are originally coming from the US they should be Austrian made
