Glock 17 vs. M&P 9... purchase advice needed

Does anyone know if they have fixed the issue with the front sight working loose?

Stupid question, but the M&P's being sold now, are they still 1st generation or is there a 2nd generation?

I haven't heard about the front sight problem, and have never had any problems with my M&P-9 after 2000+ rounds.

The M&P's being sold now are 1st Gen. There isn't a 2nd gen out yet, AFAIK. They are on the second revision though, Rev. N.

How do you Glock shooters feel about the 3.5lb connector vs the standard 5.5lb connector? Is it worth getting and how much extra is it?

Just a general question not particularily specific to Glocks.... when releasing the slide forward, I see many people just pull down the slide release lever. I pull back and release the slide as I'm worried it will start to cause wear on the notch in the slide. Any opinons or experiences with this?

Tool is not "required" it just makes it easier for guys like me that have sausage fingers.:) If you can flick the little lever down with your finger go for it. At least you don't have to pull the trigger to field strip. The "tool" as you call it is what holds the interchangeable grips on.

I wouldn't stick my finger into the action with a locked back slide. I use a pen, but you can use a screw driver or what ever is handy. You can also take it down by dry firing, but the guys at mp forum are not recommending it.

In keeping with my advice of this genre: Don't buy ONE ! Buy TWO of them....

I'm going to slide my 2 cents worth. BUY them BOTH !!

By the way, I've got a G17 and 2 1911's in single stack (both 9mm and .45), and my next purchase will likely be the S&W 9mm M&P.

Man u 2 should be salesman !! Now i want one too !! How much is an M&P 9mm . Im thinking of trading my Colt LW commander for it . Since im saving for a Tavor and AR .

^Just curious if you bought M&P when you bought your Glock, would you still want a Glock after?

Good question, I am curious to know too :D

Also, do you guys find the 3.5lb connector is a lot better than the 5.5lb connector WITHOUT using an NY1 spring?

At the risk of hijacking this thread....

I swapped in a 3.5 lb spring kit made by 'Wolff Springs' that cost me all of $ 6.00 from Brownells.com... The joke was that the shipping costs more than the 3 little springs (recoil, safety plunger and disconnector or something like that). AND I still shoot like shzt with that Glock17 sitting in my lockup.
