Why so? You offended because you own a glock and he called you a sheepo?
Personally for me.. i prefer the XD. Not saying its better, just like the feel, look and the ability to place back on target better/faster than the glock. Buy hey... i also prefer rootbeer to coke.

I'd have to jump on the Glock bandwagon on this one. While I definitely don't have the experience with the XD's that Redleg has, nor the Glocks for that matter. All the XD's that have been out to my range in the last year are currently broken and not working. that says a lot to me.
Of course the Smith and Wesson should be looked at too, if you are looking for a plastic gun.

I have an XD9 and it has been an excellent gun. Good price, good design, good features. I was sold on it after reading some of the torture tests done on the XD in which it took a lot of abuse and continued to function. I don't abuse mine, but that is what I want in a handgun; one that is basically indestructable. So far, it has lived up to the hype. I have fired nearly 1000 rounds so far, with zero feed problems, using a few different types of ammo, but mostly Fiocchi which I have found to be excellent. I tried out a Glock .40 at the range a while back and it seemed like a good gun as well. I don't think you can go wrong with either one if you are looking for a reasonably priced, reliable polymer pistol. The XD come with a lifetime warranty, but unfortunately Springfield does not sell parts yet, so it has to be shipped back to the factory for repair. For most people I don't think that is ever an issue.
I put 200 rounds through my XD9 before shipping off to Korea and not a hitch. Sure 200 is a drop in the bucket, but there were 4 different brands involved.
50 Rounds of Federal - Feeds flawlessly.
50 Rounds of Winchester - See Federal.
50 Round of of handload - Not a problem.
50 Rounds of some mystery stuff no mechanical FTF's.
This mystery junk was in an unmarked box with brass jackets and steel cases (wtf). The stuff when fired looked like a diesel truck starting up and I had two hangfires (primer delay of about 1/2 a second).
The XD9 is a solid gun that feels (to me) much better in the hand than a GLOCK. People who are accustomed to all metal pistols sometimes find the balance to be different, but that's just how polymer pistols are.
Only difference between the two being the grip safety on the XD (i love it), and the trigger pull (XD wins again). The Glock's tennifer finish is superior, but apparently all XD are now being made with the exact same finish, but different brand name.
Try them both out and buy what you like.

This says more about the supply of parts than the durability of the guns. Most of the issues concern the trigger bar return spring. It is a small simple to replace part. Unfortunately SA has decided not to sell parts, and only to give them away through their distributor (R Nichols). Of course R Nichols has never been noted as a company that stocks parts. So there is a very slow part replacement system. Given a few years this will likely change, and parts will be more available.
having shot and owned both guns, a glock 17 and XD40. Its a tough call, they both have their strong points and weak points. In terms of feel the XD has a great grip angle and feel. The glock is slighter more pointable. I like them both. If you could only buy one, put them in your hand and whichever feels better is the one to buy. having said that, I sold my glock 17 and kept my XD!

Sigh, much as I hate to admit it, skycrane is right. Neither has any clear advantage over the other. Glock parts are more available due to sproingfield being nobs about selling parts. With either one, you probably won't need parts....buy what works best for you....
