Hey guys/gals, I'm thinking of getting a Glock 19, mainly for the wife but also for me:) I know there are several good pistols out there, however I am specifically talking about the Glock 19. I really enjoy Glocks, my current is a gen 3 17, but I've owned several. I know that some will say its stupid to get a compact pistol in a country where you don't have ccw, and you have a barrel sticking out past the gun. I'm trying to find her something that will fit her hand better than the Glock 17, but allowing me to still exchange parts, mags, sights, ammo etc and the added advantage of the same controls/features on both pistols. I would like to know your thoughts on these little Glocks and also how these extended barrels are working with these pistols in regards to accuracy and function, I really dis-like the stainless barrels that I see on them, are there other barrel options?

I appreciate all feedback but please don't turn this into a "my gun is better than a Glock" debate. I own and have owned several other semi autos that my wife and i really enjoy but this is solely about the tiny Glocks.

Thanks.

I really like and enjoy the G19. It somehow fits better in my hands than the G17 and I've also always shot it better than the G17; don't know why.

I don't mind the barrel sticking out, it's not that bad at all. I would not venture in sub compacts like the G26 though...

Buy one, try it and I'm guessing you'll sell your G17. I'm a 1911 guy but I tried a G19 for a pistol course and loved it. There's something about this pistol that just fits right and downright works. I've since bought one and couldn't be happier with it. As for the barrel, mine is black so you can definitely avoid stainless, I think it's lonewolf but not 100% sure.

A good friend of mine bought one of the FDE G19's from Dlask recently.
He owns and has shot a lot of full sized pistols, G17, G22, Sigs, H&K, really knows his guns and is very particlar with what he likes/dislikes. But each time I speak with him, he raves about how nice the G19 is.
He has larger hands and is thinking of adding a mag floor plate extension to obtain a better grip, but has no problem shooting it as it is. However, that would not be an issue for your wife.
He has given the pistol so much praise, he has me thinking of getting one!!!
That's about all the info. I can offer.
Might make a perfect Christmas gift!!! LOL

Mike,

I should mention I've owned a G20, G27 and used a G17 extensively and the G19 is the only Glock I currently own or plan to own in the near future. The other option might be a G23 with a 9mm conversion barrel which would give you the option to shoot 9mm as well as 40.

I love my glock 19, fits my small hands perfect. Its like a real old school wife, only death will separate us. lmao

I recently shot a buddy's G19 (recently acquired from Dlask).

It's a more compact frame and that's a plus for anyone with small hands. Other than that, there's no advantage to getting one over a G17.

I'd suggest you evaluate how badly you want one to shell out the extra $$ for a G19 over a G17 (don't forget, Glock stock sights aren't the best...).

If you do go for the G19 and decide it's not for you, I think the risk is pretty low. You could probably sell it for close to the purchase price on the EE.

(Even though I don't think there's any advantage to having a G19 over a G17, I still catch myself thinking "I really should get one of those...")

I think this sums it up quite well. I has fetus hands so I love the G19 Gen 4 due to the smaller size. I also have a fullsize M&P to cover that niche so the G19 was a great purchase for me... one compact and one fullsize. I think if you don't have a need for a smaller size, G17 would be a cheaper choice.

Funny you should say that because I only ever saw G19s for $1000+ used on the EE so when I saw Dlask bring them in for $825, I jumped on it thinking it was a once in a lifetime smoking deal and I could easy break even if I ever didn't want one. So much for that plan since they have so many they can't sell them all (so far) but still no regrets (other than our stupid laws which require my G19 to have a perpetual microerection out the front).

I would get her a Glock 34 Gen 4

With no backstrap, the pistol grip will be smaller and the longer sight radius will help her align the sights easyier.

Compact pistols offer no benifits other then being compact for carry

Also if you want a pistol with a very small grip, look into the Walther PPQ

I suppose one thing to mention is that the 19 barrel barely sticks out at all, it doesnt look terrible like the 26. Alot of people seem to like the shorter grip, even people with bigger hands. Oh and in terms of a black barrel, you could buy from Questar to get a black one ore you cound just get the Dlask one Armacoated or something.

Agreed on the stupid laws, but it really ain't that bad for the G19. I actually find it very amusing when I read posts from the last few weeks of people complaining on the ugly look of the Canadian legal G19 barrel. It's only 5mm / 3/16 of an inch longer than factory.

The Berreta 92 and 96 have had the same look for the last 35 years and nobody ever complained about that!

I bought one of the G19's from Dlask and I really like it. Fits my hands very well. I haven't shot it yet though. The barrel doesn't look that bad tbh. It looks nicer than what I was expecting. I'm still going to have a Glock factory threaded barrel imported though.

:agree: The grip on my G22 Gen4 actually feels smaller than the G19 Gen 4. Main reason for that is it seems like the curved part on the back of the frame is a litle bit higher on the G19 than it is on the G22. I think it's because of the shorter frame.

True story :)

A lot of ppl buy stuff by the looks and also knowing that there is shorter option, why not to complain :)

It's not terrible but it's not how it was designed to look (unlike the 92s where that's by design)... the complaint is more about the law than the look. Any anti-gun friends I have over always get shown the G19 and I always ask them if they feel safer because the barrel on the gun sticks out 5mm more.

"Best gun... evahhh!"

No, just kidding. I don't know what the best gun ever is, but of all the pistols I own, have owned, or have tried... the GLOCk 19 remains one of my consistent favorites year after year. My two favorite pistols right now are the HK P7M13 and my OD Gen 3 GLOCK 19. I also have a black Gen 3 19, and a Gen 2 23 and a Gen 3 23. The OD 19 is my favorite. I've owned GLOCK 17's and 21's in the past. The 19's feel better in the hand. There is the whole thing about, "the longer the grip, the more it swells out to the back" in the GLOCk design, and that is true. That has been discussed on here by myslef and others in the past. Whether it is that, or something else, I can't see how you are going to go wrong with a GLOCK 19. People think I have big hands. On one of my youtube videos someone commented that my hands make the HK Mark 23 look like the normal USP (ouch!), but the GLOCk 19 is a good fit for me.

Get Trijicon night sights. Stock GLOCK "U-notch" sight are rubbish:

With a GLOCK 21 SF (grip continues to swell out to the back at the bottom of the grip):
