Glock 19 vs 17

Barrel length affects velocity, not accuracy. That is one of the most annoying myths in the gun world.
Actually not a myth, but fact! Yes, barrel length affects velocity as the longer the barrel, the more pressure builds on the round exiting. Accuracy is affected by two means, one is that the longer the barrel, the more twist upon exit (minor) , and the second (more important) is that the longer the site radius, the more accurate a gun is to shoot. This was one of the improvements of the Shadow 2, in that it had a longer site radius for better accuracy. To prove my point, just shoot a 6" 686, next to a 2 1/2" 686 at a silhouette target at 25 yds. You will find that barrel length DOES make a difference in accuracy, as you will be lucky to hit the X ring once out of 6 rds with the snubbie if you are a good shot. Compacts and snubbies are used for CCW's in the USA. Here they are TOTALLY useless.

I've been through all the 17's.

Recently picked up the sniper grey.

I enjoy the 17 more due to...

- better two hand grip
- more color options at the moment
- cost less
- no Pinocchio barrel

The pure reason 19 exists is for CCW.

Hence it's reputation for carry in the US.

A moot point here in Canada.

^^^^^^ +1 my preference as well

Well.....I have both a 17 and a 20. 17 fits my 5'3" wife's hand perfectly. When I hold the 17 I see my flesh within mm's of getting a nasty slide bite...sits too low in my hand...where my 20 fits and feels they way a pistol should...imho...

Have a pal who just took delivery of a 19 without ever holding one, and upon gripping it for the first time -- he complained that it is too small...

So have you ever bought a baseball glove without trying it on?

Best to visit a gun shop and get a feel for them....

Barrel length affects velocity, not accuracy. That is one of the most annoying myths in the gun world. Also, the Glock 19 is a 9mm, I have never fired a 9mm that was unpleasant to shoot. This includes the 26 and S&W Shield.

But does velocity not affect accuracy? Also there is the matter of sight radius, hence effective accuracy.

Not to sure why you would consider the G 19. The 19 and 23 are compacts designed for concealed carry. This will never be allowed in Canada. The shorter barrel will reduce accuracy and is not as pleasant to shoot, so if you are planning on using it for target shooting, IPSC, or IDPA competition, it is not practical. If you plan on buying a gun where the primary focus is to keep it in the safe and say 'I got it, and it looks cool', well, that is all that compacts really are good for here in Canada.

And dude, dont be so negative. It won't happen soon.

I enjoy shooting both, I have 2 of each, one of each is highly modified the other 2 are stock. I got the 17 first as my first pistol, and if I did it again Id probably do it the same and get a 17 first

I never understand the comments about a 19 being useless in Canada, I shoot both just as much and I enjoy shooting both, so they are not useless to me. Just because I cant CC doesnt make a compact pistol useless to me if you want one and it fun to shoot then go get one. I wasn't a huge fan of the threaded barrel so I had a custom length one made for me in 106mm, that is only 3mm longer then a standard G19 barrel. I would like to get a compensator to try on the G19 threaded barrel, so although I cant use a silencer in Canada a threaded barrel isn't completely useless if you want to try a comp.

You would be surprised how many members are authorized to carry for certain activitys, it's all ready happening... JP.

I about to buy my first glock . I'm hesitating between g19 and g17 . I love the badass look of the g19 threaded barrel but i am concerned about the smaller grip.

Anyone here have both? And is the smaller grip is annoying compare to the g17?

You should handle both before you buy either. It's very subjective, but as soon as you've held them you'll know which one you prefer.

ive had a G17C for a 7 years or so and ive always found it just a little too big to be comfy in my hands.
picked up a G19TB 3-4 months ago and LOVE IT!

i prefer the higher sights on the 19TB (old eyes)
i prefer the slimmer width.
i prefer the 1/2 off the grip.
i just prefer everything about the 19 over the 17.

it all comes down to hand size and what you like.
my dad has big mitts and he likes big pistols and he likes my 17 over the 19 because of that.

your really gonna have to fondle both to see which one is for you.

No negativity. Concealed carry will never happen here in Canada, and actually, I am happy that I live in a country where it is not required :).

So glad you speak for all the crime victims. FYI the northwest territories has a higher murder rate than any US state.
