Glock 19x - thoughts?

I picked up a 19x at Nechako recently. I’m not a Glock fan but I find this one less offensive than most of them. I’m going to try it with the full beaver tail next.

After lots of delays and waaaaay too much fricken snow on the road into the range, I finally got out with my G19X.

I shoot from a modified Weaver stance with my elbow bent simply because it is the least difficult position from which to see my sights with some clarity through progressive lenses and safety glasses. What I found was that the 19X jammed consistently from that position: failures to feed, extract and eject...one after the other.

I shoot all my handguns in this fashion, including other Glocks, and have never had this occur. By way of comparison, I also shot a new to me Walther PPQ45 that afternoon without a hiccup.

I had some bulk ammo purchased from CanAm, Federal bulk ammo and leftover reloads from my bucket of odds and sods. There were plated, FMJ and lead bullets ahead of various powders (for the reloads). The one load I didn't have on hand was my current go to with a 124gr plated bullet ahead of 5.3gr of Power Pistol. That load is much snappier than what I was shooting during this outing, with the exception of some lead loads with 4.7gr of Bullseye.

When switching ammo and trying all 3 mags that came with the gun didn't work, I decided to change my stance. I stuck my shooting arm straight out, locked the elbow and fired away. With the elbow locked, I was able to empty all 3 mags in succession without a glitch. So, it appears that the gun needs that extra resistance for the spring to work properly. So, I'm guessing it has a very stiff recoil spring and may need to be shot a bit in order for it to loosen up.

Here's a couple of pics of my G19X with a custom optic cut from Red Tower Armoury. Venom optic and Ameriglo suppressor height sights. The slide color is FDE which I asked for.

I have a 19X simply because it belongs in my collection of modern striker-fired designs. That said, I find the trigger to be horrible - it is all increasing stack without a clearly-defined "wall", before arriving at a very mushy let-off. This makes it very difficult to stage the trigger just before the break during deliberate slow--fire. As a result of the disappointing trigger I don't shoot mine very often. FWIW, my Gen 4 Glock 17 definitely had the better trigger of the two pistols. I am not interested in spending another $200 on an after-market trigger just to get what I should have received straight out of the box. Rather, my 19x will sit at home while my other modern striker designs go to the range. Thankfully, with the FN 509 Tactical, SIG P320 M17, P320 X5, HK SFP9, Walther PPQ and Steyr L9A1, there are plenty of great , modern designs with decent factory triggers to choose from. The Glock 19X may be a an improvement and cause for celebration amongst Glock fans, however it still falls fundamentally short in my opinion due to the substandard trigger performance. YMMV, as it frequently does.....

But you upgraded the trigger on your 509t!!

The fundamental difference is that the FN 509T had a decent trigger out of the box. I like that pistol so much in every other regard that I believed it was worth an upgrade - and it most definitely was! I just don't see the same potential for trigger excellence in the 19X and therefore can't be bothered to play (and pay) the upgrade game. For such a highly-touted pistol it is a real disappointment to me. Perhaps I got a lemon? Difficult to say without a direct comparison to another 19X. All I know is that it is really quite bad. Thankfully I have a selection of other handguns with serviceable triggers.

On a side-note, I strongly recommmend against trying to ascribe any logic to my decisions and actions. You will only end up confused and irritable.....

I have both guns and prefer the 19X in every way. Funny how everyones experience is different.

My trigger is pretty good #♂️

Granted the 19X doesn’t shoot like a shadow 2... but it’s a different price point and a different market. Have around 800rds through mine at the moment and never a single issue. Not huge on the “night sights” because I’d prefer a better contrast when shooting paper.

Then again, some people shoot their pistols off bench rests and try to get the smallest groups possible (and that’s not me) and if you’re doing that, I’m sure you can find some flaws to pick on (or maybe get unlucky with your trigger)
