I have had/shot/owned a glock 17, 21, 22, 34 and m&p 40. 9mm is the way to go for target shooting. If you want to go bigger go .45. The price difference does not justify the snappier .40 cal kick. I find the .40 cal to be way snappier than the .45, and generally, at 3 dollars less for a 50 round box, id rather be shooting a nice .45 cal than a in between roudnd.
One gun to choose for a .40 cal round is the HK USP. It was designed around that cartridge.
