Hello guys,

I wanna purchase a new gun in the next month, but i cant decide which one to buy between the Glock 37 and the Desert Eagle. I have a Glock 17 right which i will keep even if i buy a new pistol. I heard the Desert Eagle kinda break easly and that it is hard to get support for it in Canada. What I wanted with the my new gun was a big caliber. The only thing i had in mind was the Desert Eagle 50 AE. Aftet I though about the the .45 from Glock.

What do you guys think??

Any other pistol with big caliber must consider, so if u got one in mind just share it!

Thanks

why a big caliber?

they also make desert eagles in .357mag and .44mag
10mm is also a powerfull auto cartridge if you insist on having a big caliber auto.

BTW .45 kicks much less than you'd think.

check out the price and availability of .50AE vs .45ACP. Unless money is really no object you'll get a lot more shooting out of a .45

a 1911 is a must have in any shooters collection, lots of brands to pick from... if not a 1911 fan kimber, HK, FN, Glock all make fine pistols.

or if you really want a hand cannon think S&W 500 ...but again back to the price and availability of ammo :)

also had the 500 in mind but then again, from what i read he's not fishin for a revolver ;)

I'm a Glock fan but I'd say spend your money on a nice higher end 1911 in .45ACP.

And the Desert Eagles are for those with adequacy issues.... ;) :p

i'm just back from the store, i was there basicaly to look over a kimber stainless target ll, and i got a hand over a near new gold match too, both in .45.....i need a 1911,so kimber is on my ultra short list.

i realized that a .45 is a great alternative solution for target shooting match or plinking , the 45 caliber work at way much lower pressure than 9mm or .40, then the handling is much less peakey at the muzzle exit, all good for serious target shooting match ....the sole dark thing left is upgrading costs and ammo costs, wich is void if you reload.

i got a good price on the used kimber gold match, but still, the kimber is higher priced than the .45 glock, and with the .45 gap good luck with ammo availability, the .45 gap is not so poplar.

Of the 50cal Deagle or G37, I recommend neither. Are you just looking for frustration? Finding loaded ammo for either, ain't gonna be easy. At least with 45GAP, you can trim 45ACP to size, but, that's a hassle, and a reloading only proposition. Stick with 45 ACP, over GAP, unless you just need to have the odd-ball. Glock21sf is what I'd recommend, it's good enough for me at least. It's a powerful round, from a fullsized gun, fairly easy to control.
If you really want a big bore blaster, a revolver is the way to scratch that itch. Start with a 44mag, and they go up from there, 454, 460v, 500!

I got both 50 AE & the S&W 500. Also last weekend got to blow off a few mags of the 10mm glock when I was at the range. Liked the light weight appeal of the glock but hot damm it recoils crazy but all in all nice but not that accurate as I would have liked. Chris said that he was still working up a load for it. Now the 500 is the most accurate handgun I own. Hot damm 25 meter's and I can print a 4" group & no thats not no computer commando b.s. either. But as far as recoil and repeatability there is none & if it wasn't for the sand bag's helping out with the massive barrel that group would be much bigger. A side note, if you want to use your hands say for painting don't shot more than 3 rounds. Now we get to my favorite handgun of all time the 50 AE.
Power = Yes, can shoot flames if you get the right ammo
Accurate = Yes, but could only print a 6" 7 round group @ 25 meter's when I used a bushnell holo sight with factory Hornady rounds.
Recoil = Same as a 357 mag, maybe a bit less.
Summary, For part's, warranty & ease of clean-up the Glock 37 hands down, plus if you already own a glock it will just feel like home. Now you got money to burn and don't need the use of your hands or can hunt with a hand gun S&W 500 all the way. But if you like the "BLING!" & "BOOM!" factor with almost no recoil, plus can find 50 AE ammo the Desert Eagle is the hand gun to own. Hope this help's you out with making up your mind & if you live in the lowermainland PM me and I will let you try the 50 AE & 500.

Thanks for the support to all of you.

About 2 months ago i saw that guy at the range with a S&W. It was not a 500, but still. He had a recoil buffer or balance under his gun, cant tell what the proper name for it. Anyway, i would like to know if there is such a thing for the 500 model with the 8 3/8 barrel. I looked over the specs of the 500 on the S&W website and the caliber is .500, I never heard of that type of ammo. How hard is it to get some??

Thanks

you have a Glock already! get something new ;)

DE is a fun gun but go for the .44mag...just as cool only cheaper (and .44mag isn't cheep to shoot!!!)

if you want a .45 get a Sig or a 1911

Not sure where your located but Epps usually has GAP in stock for around $24 a box last time I checked. I cleared them out of the $16.99 boxes of 230 grain hollow points though :D

Just got back from a range trip with my (new to me) Desert Eagle 44MAG Mark I . . . I'm still smiling :D :D :D

If it's a gun to make you feel like you're 12 again, the DE is the way to go.

On the downside, I don't think there is a quicker way to blow through a box of 44MAG that quickly.

Thanks for the support to all of you.

All of these rounds being mentioned, all of them are reloading only, if you intend to shoot more than 20-30 rounds without going broke. If you're the type of guy, who can be happy firing half a box of ammo, and being done, sure you can get away just shooting factory. I like to shoot an MTM box of 100 rounds of 44mag, when I go to the range. Also, by loading them yourself, you can tailor make the ammo to fit your needs, all the way from light practice loads, up to max load wristbreakers. Desert Eagle is a little more complicated to load for, as due to the gas port, cast lead is not recommended, jacketted rounds are substantially more expensive.

What I thought of today, while driving around at work, was:
The 45gap round, is designed to fit a more powerful round into a smaller handgun, 9mm size. The Desert Eagle, is an obscenely large handgun. Just based on that, choosing between these two specific handguns, seems odd.

You can get the 500s&w, in any barrel length they make, so long as it is over 106 mm. Ammo, starts at $2-3 per round, you could reload for likely around 75 cents per round, less if you cast your own (WAY LESS).

Dober: seriously, $16.99 for 230 gr hollowpoints, the last time you went there? When? August 2001? Most 45acp 230gr FMJ, runs at least $28 these days. I'd have to assume 45 GAP is gonna cost more. If these prices are current, they'll sell out now that you let the cat out of the bag.

Very, very true. I blew through 2 boxes of 44MAG today with the DE no problem!

If I had more I would have kept right on shooting :D
