I am not asking preferance or moral superiority, I am asking in terms of the feel of the shot. I have been vehemently anti-glock since I owned a glock 21sf that felt like shooting a giant piece of lego that was very unnecessarily large. However, I recently had some experience with a g17 that I liked, but I am not a fan of the 9mm (personall preferance, let's not open that debate). I know the 37 uses .45 GAP. I reload so I will buy a couple thousand brass and any availability issue dissapears.

Here are my questions:

Would a normal 230 grain load in .45 gap feel hotter coming out of the g37 than a normal .45 acp out of a 1911? I know it is a higher velocity round. I have some reloading questions too, but I will ask those in the reloading section if I decide to by the g37.

How does the muzzle flip/felt recoil compare? (Flip is the wrong word for 1911's gentle and loving push but is there any with the g37?)

Any other info that you think would be helpful or that I am ignoring? I will never give up 1911's, but I am CONSIDERING adding THIS glock to the collection. There is a part of me that is uncomfortable discussing glock's as a potential purpose at all...I hope that feeling eventually passes...

I like Glocks & I also like 1911's.

I've shot the Glock in .40 a lot and the Glock in 9mm quite a bit. Never shot one in .45 GAP, though.

Likely would boil down to personal preference.

For me the limited availability of .45 GAP ammo might be a consideration. Although, with securing a good supply of the main component, the brass, as a reloader maybe not so much.

In my own case, I shoot the .45 ACP off the 1911 platform [as well as .22 lr; 9mm; .38 ACP/Super; .40 S&W; & 10mm... :D]

And in the Glock, right now it's strictly a Model 22 in .40 cal.

I've said this before, in a SHTF scenario, the G22 would be my "go to".

While I love my 1911's over the years I have become a firm believer that Glocks "work".... ;)

This is really an apples to oranges comparison as you're dealing with two entirely different beast here.

I have a G37 and several 1911s. I have read some tests where 45 GAP factory rounds exceed the velocities of 45 ACP rounds but that is due mostly to the loading components and there is not a significant difference. When I first bought the G37 I picked up a couple of boxes of commercial 45 GAP ammo. It was not that much fun to shoot as the rounds were quite hot and the gun is fairly light so recoil was a bit of an issue. My 1911's are all steel and the extra weight mitigates the recoil of factory ammo so I would say the 1911 is a better bet if recoil is an issue for you.

That being said, I reload almost everything including 45 GAP and with a mild to middle of the road load the G37 is a fun gun to shoot, handles on a par with the G17 and puts nice big holes in the target.

I am a confirmed 1911 man but would not get rid of the G37 because I also like the 45 GAP. The best part is that even if the cartridge becomes obsolete, as long as you have a good supply of brass (and in a pinch you could even trim small primer pocket 45 ACP brass down to GAP length) you'll always be able to shoot it as the bullets and powder for 45 ACP are pretty much interchangeable with the 45 GAP.

You'll need small pistol primers instead of large but other than that and a set of Lee dies you're good to go.

Bottom line - if you can get one for a reasonable price (and I've seen several that were), I'd buy it. As much as I love my 1911's there is something about the simplicity & reliability of Glocks that draws me to them (probably why I have 7 of them :D).
