full disclosure, im not a glock fanboy.
thats not saying i dont like and respect glocks - i just dont like the way they feel in my hand.
that said i do have 5 of them because there is no disputing that they work every time you hit the trigger and i do respect dependability over comfort.
but as the years crawl by ive always kept my eye on the new glocks as they come out hoping that they will make one that actually does not feel like a brick in the hand.
so i started with the 17C.
as im sure we all know its a full size duty pistol, feels like a brick in the hand.
has the comfort of sandpaper underwear but will work even if you go years without cleaning it (as ive tested)
so around 12 years after picking up the 17C i picked up a 19TB.
now not living near a gun store that stocks pistols i have to purchase all mine without getting hands on time.
but i wanted something a little smaller in the hand in the hopes that it would feel better to shoot.
so picked up the 19TB.
hated it.
well, hate is a strong word.
it felt the same as the 17 but the finger groves didnt match up for me so they are super uncomfortable.
so, once again a couple years go by.
then the 19X comes out.
now i was truly excited about this one, unlike a lot of people.
but i was for good reason;
1) no finger groves
2) left hand friendly
and i must admit, i really do like the 19X more than my 17C and my 19TB.
so now we enter 2019 and the G48 hits the market.
right off the bat i knew i needed to pick one up.
no finger groves and almost half as thin as the 17/19!!!
this might finally be a Glock that will feel nice in the hand!
so what are my thought on the G48?
well, ive been sitting here for the last 2 weeks shooting it and sitting in my den at night comparing it side by side to the 17/19/19x and ive come to a conclusion.
it DOES feel better in the hand than all the others!
its still a glock, its still a brick, its still plastic but the narrowing of the frame does make it more comfortable in the hand.
it seems strange because this glock is 100% made for concealed carry - no rail, everything is slicked, front is rounded the stripling is almost non existent.
so thats strange.
but what makes it more comfortable?
being able to get your fingers around the grip more.
with the 17 and 19's my fingers come around the grip and stop about 1/4 of the way on the far side of the grip heading back to my thumb.
with the 48 my fingers get to 1/2 way (+ or -) which makes me feel like i have more control on the pistol and it makes it more comfortable.
it also smacks of holding a plastic 1911 in a way.
so what do i think of the G48?
i like it.
whats the bad news?
couple things but the most important is the plastic poly bottom feels THIN! like thin, like im gonna break it thin.
i like my 19X more.
while i do like the 48 i still prefer the 19X more simply due to the fact that its left hand friendly and the 48 is not (probably strictly due to the fact that they wanted to keep the thickness down and adding left sided slide release would add to the thickness).
so in conclusion if you are looking for a smaller pistol - the G48 is the ideal smaller sized pistol.
my wife actually likes the G48 due to its size.
if we lived in the states and could carry i would carry the G48 (or more likely the 43X)
the G48 is actually a comfortable glock to hold and shoot!
the 48 compared next to 17/19/19X
you can see how much more of the grip you can get your fingers around compared between the normal glock and the 48
