Glock Gen 5??

They had to have finger grooves when being imported from Austria to the US, importation points system the US demanded. Now that Glocks are being made in the US, they put it back to no finger grooves, as the points system no longer applies to domestic production.....

Do you have a source that supports that? Because otherwise it really doesn't make any sense when you look at a myriad of other factors.

Well, I will say that the Gen5 is a LOT more like a Gen2 than anything since the Gen2. A good thing based on the Gen 3 and Gen 4 pistols I've handled.

When I shoot my Gen2 G22, all I really wish it had was a flared mag well, ambi controls, and a OEM barrel more suited to running lead reloads. Sounds basically like a Gen 5 - I may have to pick one up.

This is covered in Glock Armorers courses, basic and advanced- source: Glock Inc. Glock did not want to add the finger grooves, but also did not want to loose the US as it's largest market at the time.

If you want a source in writing with an in depth explanation: "Gun Digest of Glock by Patrick Sweeney" chapter 6, pages 94 to 97 .....

Since when do firearms regulations need to make sense?

So... Was there any conclusion on what the new barrel offers?

It's the g17 MHS barrel. Basically a Glock barrel with a more fully supported chamber and conventional rifling. AKA the same as all the aftermarket bbls ppl buy for their glocks so they can shoot lead reloads.

The barrel has changed. Polygonal rifling is sleeping with the fishes, as Glock opted for a more traditional cut with a match crown. We’ll get this on a ransom rest and see if the claims are true; stay tuned. We asked about threaded barrels, but none are available at this point in time.

lol, the changes are negligible and I like my Glock a lot but it is funny they call this the Gen5.
I guess by the time I die I will then see a Glock with bull barrel, something new for IPSC production other than a 17 and perhaps a bull barrel.
We will see in...say..40/45 years. lol.

So then why didn't any other European gun makers start adding finger grooves, and why didn't Glock dump them sooner? I was also under the impression that all Gen 3 and 4 Glocks got finger grooves, not just the ones sent to the states.

more I read this, more it seems that Glock is just as Apple :)

the thing they produce works and it's reliable, but lack so many basic features the competitive products have for years already :)

And any little new "no feature" is announced as a revolutionary step up :)

FWIW, googling around, it's pretty well confirmed these guns will go on sale in the USA in 2 days from now on Aug 26.

Anyone know when they will turn up in Canada? Do they need to go back to the RCMP lab FFS?

I'm a certified Glock Armorer and finger groves were not covered in any way shape or form on the course. Early generations of Glock...I've owned in the past...were imported into the US for years before the textures on newer generations changed and then later finger grooves were added to subsequent models.

I usually hate finger-grooved grips as they never line up for me but I figure ol' Gaston and I must have the same size hands because the finger grooves on Gen 3 and 4 Glocks are a perfect fit for me. I think I'm in the minority here, though. :)

I'd like a 17 to go with my 22, but hate the finger grooves. This does give me hope. Provided they don't revert to pre-2017 prices!

Not a fan of the finger grooves either. (And I don't have small hands; I just don't like being forced into a particular grip.) The features of the Gen 5 will likely be enough to convince me to grab another Glock or two, perhaps one of the baby Glocks if I can get over the protruding barrel issue ... ugh.
