Glock Gen4 Recoil Spring Recall/Replacement Program

I only noticed this today. But it seems that Glock has announced a replacement program for the Recoil Spring Assembly of its Gen 4 pistols (except G26 and G27 models).
Does anyone know of any issues with the current Recoil Spring Assembly?

It MAY fix the feeding problems that gen 4s are suffering from, and in some cases apparently it helps with the ejection, although I am not 100% clear on why.

There is also a replacement extractor, although there is no official program for this yet, to fix their extraction problems.

And there is also a replacement ejector, although again there is no replacement program, to fix their ejection issues.

And I believe there is a replacement trigger bar in the works as well.

Some guns are fixed by one of these parts replacements. Some need all three. Some seem to run fine out of the box.

I will probably look at buying a Gen 4 sometime in late 2012 or early 2013, by which time I am hoping they will have a clue what the #### they're doing. I am not sure whether the problems are all generated by poorly designed parts (like the RSA) or by poorly made parts (like the extractors).

But how they came up with the idea, "let's fix the issues with the G22, and then install that new, much heavier recoil spring in the G17, which worked perfectly before" is totally outside of my ability to understand.
 
I haven't had any problems yet but wouldn't mine having the most up to date parts so there are no problems farther down the road.

They will erase your serial number from their system and void all future warranty work. :eek: Ha ha just kidding around :D.....why don't you try it and let us know?!

Holly cow!

Maybe i'll wait too "all I want is the back straps, large mag release and new grip" every thing else seems useless.

I din't know of the replacement ejector, I need that more than I need the RSA.
I was walking around cursing myself for abusing my wrist in my younger days (ahem... extra-curricular activities), but maybe its the ejector thats the problem...
 
Has anyone else heard(or read) that the problems are from using cheap ammo that does not have enough pressure?

I gave them a call today, the new RSA is going to take 4-6 weeks.

The interesting bit, is that I asked about the extractor and ejector replacements and was transferred to a different dept. The person I spoke to said that they are replacing the bits but they won't mail those parts out to you. If you want it done you have to send in your gun... to the US.
According to the guy I spoke to they don't have someone here (Canada) working on that program "At this time" but he can't comment on whether they will in the future, so if you really want it replaced, you have send it directly to them.
I asked if they have the new parts for sale, so that I could just buy and replace it myself, and he said he could not comment on that... (I'm thinking wth... no comment??? again)
So I asked, can you tell me exactly whats wrong with the extractor and ejector and again no comment.
It felt like they were not quite ready to acknowledge that there is something going on. Maybe they are trying to assess whether there is actually an issue before taking a decision.
It would be good if some other glock owners can call in and say the have extraction/ejection issues and see if they get the same response. Maybe I just spoke to the guy before he had his morning cuppa.

There seems to be little doubt that the heavily sprung original Gen 4 RSA (which was really meant for the Glock 22 in .40) is too heavy for some 9mm loads.

It is not that the loads do not have enough pressure, they do not have enough pressure for what might in excess of 20 lb. recoil spring when the old style factory spring was closer to 17 pounds.
 
not really sure what the problem is with the orignal spring on gen4's. i have put over 3000 rounds of all brands of ammo and no problems yet. maybe it affects reloads or the early gen4 models.
