I own a G17, 21 and 34. Thousands of rounds have gone through the G17 & 21 without a failure of anykind.

Yesterday at IDPA my G34 wouldn't chamber a round about 3 or 4 different times. It's fairly new and I have shot about 500 rounds in it without an issue before this.

Mind you I never cleaned it for about 300-400 rounds but I have done this with my other Glocks as well.

When the misfeeds would happen I would look down and the slide would be back about a full inch. I could see the whole round with the tip just wanting to go up the ramp and into the barrel. All I had to do each time was just pull the slide back and let it go to chamber the round.

This started happening after I slammed a very tightly loading 10 round mag into the gun (could be just a coincidence). Could I have damaged anything by pushing this mag into the gun? It basically took heman strength to put that last round in the mag. So I am thinking I may have put too much force shoving the mag into the gun.

I haven't been back after cleaning/lubing the gun to see if that was the issue. Anybody have issues after jamming a tightly loaded mag into a Glock?

They weren't my reloads but they were reloads. I am just so used to my Glocks feeding reloads that other guns won't. I am going to try and get to the range tonight with different ammo as well as the ammo in question.

Thanks guys.

Were the loaders initials SD?

My uninformed guess is the problem lies with the ammo. My guess is it may be underpowered. It may just have enough momentum to clear the spent round, but not enough to drive the slide back enough to build momentum to shove the next round up the ramp.

If you want, PM me and we can meet at Sharon with my chrony.

You inserted a factory 10 rounder with the slide down and a round in the chamber?

Those ####ty factory 10 rounders can put a lot of drag on the slide when they're full. I've had failures to feed in the same circumstances. Try it with the same ammo and mags, just put 9 in the mag instead of 10. Bet the problem doesn't resurface.

First, eliminate the mag issue. Use a 17 rounder.

Also clean your gun! You should be getting a good polish by now.

Do a detail clean, meaning the striker (slide) as well.

Is this happening on your first round??

Have you done any mods?

>>>>check your slide release lever. I recall this being the culprit (dirt in it, or the wire getting caught).

That sounds like a plan! ;)

Yes I had to top off for IDPA. Thing is I have had these mags for a long time and shot them the same way with my G17. I understand what you are saying but I don't think that's the issue. I didn't get a chance to go to the club and try different ammo but I did clean the G34 up real nice. Hopefully the mystery will be resolved tomorrow. I will update.

I really appreciate everyone's input on this thread!

I would be very surprised if it's underpowered ammo. Of course, with a bigger charge, you can get the slide to move all the way back and it will look like it solved your problem but maybe create others, like more recoil, more wear etc.

not a G34, but i have a G19 with the lonewolf barrel, after getting some combat master reloaded ammo jamming in the gun, i measured the chamber and it is tighter than a factory G17 barrel...

I had similar issues with some light-loaded ball ammo in my g21. I got a lot of practice working the slide with that stuff...

I had this happen on my 1911 at the cowboy match on Saturday. Same ammo as always, just the gun was way dirty so a little more resistance than normal. Only happened on the first mag in the first stage and all the other stages were fine.

Well now I can't tell if it was the ammo or a really dirty gun. I only had around twenty rounds of the ammo left and after cleaning the gun they all shot off fine. Doesn't mean it wasn't the ammo as I had some mags go good after the initial issue. The OAL was long though. Oh well, hopefully this never happens again.
