Glock or S&W M&P?

Glock 23 with a 40-9 conversion barrel. You can shoot both calibers with 1 gun. M&P 9 isn't bad, but I personally shoot much better with the Glock.

What do those conversion kits cost? I've heard about .22 conversion kits for pistols that cost almost as much as a decent .22 pistol. I don't know about you, but I'd much rather have 2 guns than 1 if it's only going to cost a bit more.

I suspect I'll end up getting a .22 pistol to complement my M&P for when I'm in the mood to do a lot of shooting but my wallet feels otherwise. ;)

I just like the Glock better that all...I don't have nothing against M&P, I'm pretty sure it's a fine product too.. It just a matter of personal preference I guess

Sounds to me like you like Glock because everyone else likes Glock. No where in any of your posts have you listed any reasons why the Glock works for YOU.... or why the M&P doesnt....

As Rick already stated, choose the pistol that works for you.

The pissing contest that ensues with which pistol is better will never end, thats why we have choices....

Conversion barrels usually run around $200, then two 9mm mags will run you another $75. So it's not bad, or you can just get a Glock 19 and save the $275 if you don't plan on shooting 40.

Three questions for you M&P guys (which may help the OP as well):

- the place near my house that sells M&Ps said that they can order them without the mag safety, but that they all come with the internal lock.... do they have it backwards?

- also.... I have read that the M&P40 shoots almost as soft as most guns chambered in 9mm due to the ergos and bore axis.... is that true? How much diff in recoil/snappiness/muzzle flip between the M&P9, M&P40 and G17, G22?

- how many reloads do you get out of your .40S&W brass when reloading for your M&P40?

Sell me on this gun lol

Thanks

In case anyone is looking at the M&P, dantesports in Montreal seems to have the best price right now....$599.97, two mags, 3 grips etc.....

Damn, that is a good price. I thought I was getting a pretty good deal at $675 from Legendary Firearms in Mississauga, ON. The exchange rate has really been playing havok with gun prices over the last 3 months...

I haven't heard that and frankly I doubt it. Any pictures I have seen of the gun without the mag disconnect did not have the internal lock. Good place to ask for sure is the M&P Forum.

"I have read that the M&P40 shoots almost as soft as most guns chambered in 9mm due to the ergos and bore axis.... is that true? "

Recoil is very subjective. I tried the .40cal with factory then my 9MM with factory and it seemed to me the .40cal had more recoil. It was certainly manageable but still heavier than the 9MM. Given the two cartridges deliver diffeerent levles of power this came as no surprise.

"how many reloads do you get out of your .40S&W brass when reloading for your M&P40?"

I reload for my Tanfoglio in .40cal. I have had partial head separation after the first reload and others that are on their 5th. All brass Winchester.

If you reload only the cost of bullets favours the 9MM. If you don`t then shooting the 9MM is a great deal cheaper.

In the end it very much depends on what you want to use the pistol for. General plinking at the range or picking one of the action shooting games.

The M&P is a very good design. The grip in MY hand feels better than the Glock. That aside both are very good pistols and both have their followings. Try them both and pick the one you shoot or like the most. You won`t be disappointed by either.

Take Care

Bob

I've actually never seen an M&P with an internal lock. The part numbers for M&P's with no locks and no mag safeties are 109301 in 9mm, 109300 in 40

The M&P jams like Greg Norman on Sunday.

Go with Glock, you won't regret it.

 Is that your personal M&P, because in close to 7,000 rounds I've never experienced a 'jam' (fail to feed, fail to fire, fail to eject) in either of the M&P's I've owned, but then my reloads are in spec for 9mm. I should note that I have had to crack freezing rain off my current one (wish I'd had a camera it looked really cool all cased in ice) and it's first trip to the range involved 500+ rounds in one long session.

Wow, another uninformed "expert".

My M&P9 has had over 2500 rds without a single fail to feed or fail to eject. I have had a total of two rds fail to fire but they were obviously bad primers as multiple hits would not set them off and they had a good deep strike. All ammo was WWB, Remington, or CCI Blaser(Aluminum).

Its true that some pistols have had issues(greentips for example) but they are without a doubt the exception, not the rule.
