Glock trying to force Canadian prices up?

this is no different from the car companies and Bombardier who ordered their US dealers NOT to sell to Canadians to maintain their price structure.

Is it fair - NO. Is it ethical - NO. Is it criminal......someone knows more about US antitrust legislation can probably talk about this.

But car companies are already getting class actions for their price disparity. It should be no different with firearms.

Someone should take this to Glocktalk.

In addition to writing Glock, Canadian dealers who go through Canadian distribution channels need to talk to their distributor, point to Questar's pricing, and ask "Why the fark aren't I able to hit that price point?" and threaten to follow Questar's lead - threaten to get the importation license themselves, or buy from Questar. I work for a large retailer, and middlemen scurry quickest when you threaten to cut them out when they get too greedy - and you definitely know when they are too greedy when someone else's everyday retail price is at below your cost.

Why Canadian Distributor's don't buy directly from Glock Austria?... IMHO there is no need to buy from the US.

Whatever you write to Glock should be 'carbon copied' to P.O. - oh and do a spell / vocabulary check as well if you want it to be considered....

I've had good service from P.O. ...but do they carry Glocks that would oyherwise be prohib. here? It was my understanding only Questar was doing it....

On Monday December 10th 2007 Glock, Inc. sent a notice to all their US Commercial Distributors advising them to stop supplying Glock products to Questar International a licensed US FFL Dealer located in Port Huron, MI. The reason for this action was that Glock, Inc believes that Questar International is involved in exporting some of these firearms to Canada... apparently Glock doesn't like or want that to happen... wonder why :jerkit:

Damn, you guys need to work on your comprehension skills. The issue AS I UNDERSTAND IT is not price, but availability.

Sending emails whining about price does this issue no good. Sending an email complaining about why Glock has decided not to sell to Questar is a better avenue to go.

I really want to say how happy I am with Questar for bringing this issue to light.

I really doubt that I am the only one out there who has a hard time reconciling US prices with Canadian prices, not only on Glock, but on many other firearms. There is that creeping feeling that we are being screwed, especially as dollar parity is in effect.

Questar has provided written proof that we, as Canadians are being given the shaft. There is no other way to describe it. We are having our goodwill abused, our money taken for granted and our brand loyalty exploited.

I really doubt that Glock is alone in this, they are merely alone in admiting it.

Thank you Questar. You are true friends of the Canadian shooter.

Here's my letter. Good luck Questar!

Dear Mr. Jones,

I've just learned of Glock's call for American distributors to cease all dealings with Questar International, which is an established and reputable Canadian firearms dealer. Having done what research I can into the issue, I can only conclude that Glock's motivation is to protect the lucrative price structure it has come to expect in the Canadian market. As all Canadians know, there are import fees and duties which can affect the price of consumer products in this, and any, country. However, given that the Canadian dollar has been on par with, and even exceeded, the value of the US dollar for quite some time, any reference to fees and duties does not justify the 50-60% premium paid by Canadian distributors, relative to American ones. Glock's efforts, to prevent Questar from importing lower priced Glock pistols from the US, amount to thinly veiled attempts to preserve a system of greedy price gouging. Sir, you will find that Canadian consumers are very tired of being gouged by companies such as yours. In any case, I am one Canadian gun owner who has decided he doesn't want to buy a Glock 20C afterall. I'll also be sure to tell my many shooting friends about Glock's reproachable actions towards Questar International.

Sincerely,

Thanks Questar for your efforts. Although I don't see myself buying a new Glock anytime soon, I will certainly consider buying other products from you.

Keep up the good work, its appreciated.

PS.

Really, the fact of the matter is that the prices will not change here because people will pay whatever is on the tag. May not be you or I but someone will and some (not all) dealers here in Canada (not to offend anyone) know this and will keep chargeing high prices to make sometimes obscene profits. Not all are like this I realize, however I have done lots of purchasesing of firearms and parts/accsessories and do find very often that if you are willing to wait a bit longer for your toys and import certain items you are paying alot less (sometimes half as much) then going to a shop and picking it up. Sad but true....

The largest downside I see.....not the only one, but the most important, is that we will now have a shortage of extended barrel restricted Glocks available......how will we ever get the shorties now? Crap-tacular.

Ve haff vays of making you verdamt Canadians pay vat ve vant. Sieg heil!
Just remember that Austrian gefreiter who caused so much trouble in 1939

Once owned a Glock for a week and traded it off. Not really impressed by a pistol without a safety, and PLEASE dont tell me that thingy in the trigger is a valid safety.;)

I think you could buy I subcompact/compact Glock down south and import it through Questar with my barrel then just get a restricted barrel from Questar.

Just speculating I'll let Mark explain it.
