glock vs xd

There are some European LEO agencies that mandate an empty chamber for carry...this was the reason that IM Metals decided to create that specific characteristic in their HS2000 pistol...why specifically those LEO agencies requested that method of carry, I have no idea, but they do do it.

As for being similar is squarishness of the slide, I dont think it really matters one way or another...perhaps it aids in target acquisition and natural aim of the pistol. But to be certain one look at the XD slide up close will show that it has a thinner upper section and a thicker secondary lower section to the slide.

In this pic you can also see the loaded chamber indicator on the top, and you can see the cocked indicator protruding out the back, both of which are also easily felt in low light situations.

This truly is one of THOSE debates, isn't it? - Kinda like the Ford vs Chev, FN FAL vs M-14, or Vanilla vs Chocolate arguments...

IMHO, if we first assume that whatever piece of equipment you are using is RELIABLE, and that you are PROPERLY TRAINED in its operation, then the most important factor with a pistol purchase is HOW IT FITS YOU.

Rather parallel, in my thoughts, to a bicycle... Once trained, you never entirely forget how to ride one, but in order to get the most efficiency and comfort from the tool, it must be of the closest fit to your own unique anatomy. I COULD ride a tricycle, but find that my 20" framed mountain bike with an aftermarket stem is a much better fit, ergo, I ride it better than the tricycle.

I think that both Glock and XD are excellent quality tools, both with a reputation for reliability. From my own experience, which has been less than 500 rounds through each...

GLOCK: More common, easier to find parts for, has "street cred"(! LOL!)... I don't like the Buck Rogers grip angle, nor do I find the plastic coated mags always drop free. When I went through RCMP Depot a few years ago, and many of the Tribal Forces training alongside of us were issued Glocks, they had no end of problems with the mags developing a lateral spread from being loaded constantly on the range, and failing to fall free from the pistols (I hear - didn't see it with my very own optical sensors). Also, not impressed by the plastic sights.

The XD has mass that makes it feel more like a pistol in my hand. If only the grip was a little (okay, a lot) larger - Maybe the .45ACP version may be a good fit? The grip safety is neither here nor there to me - I can't feel it when I shoot, but I find it distracting when dry handling the pistol. Much prefer the mags over the Glock.

If I were to choose one FOR ME, it would be the XD. However, as neither fit me worth a darn, I'll be happy with my P220 and Hogue aftermarket grips, thankyou very much!

My wife is currently in the Glock / XD 9mm debate herself.... We'll see which combat tupperware ends up in our dishwasher!!

Cool thing about the XD. It comes with two mags, holster and mag pouch. Great all around kit. Also in 357 which is pretty cool, but more expensive on ammo.

Does the XD40 have conventional rifling?
Yes it does.

Is the mag catch steel on the xd?
Yes it is. And the mag release is ambidextrous too.

Wich has more room in the trigger area for gloves when shooting outdoors in winter?
I've never really handled either a Glock or an XD while thinking about that.... But based on the picture showing both an XD and a Glock above, I'd say that the XD has a wee bit more room inside the trigger guard.

I "upgraded" my XD40 for IPSC Standard when it was kicked out of Production (the first time). I installed a steel guide rod, an extended mag release button, a magwell and a Dawson fiber-optic front sight. It may not be a "race gun", but it certainly made it into a nice IPSC pistol.

Six star,
I stand corrected. I don't shoot IPSC so please excuse my ignorance when it comes to the rules regarding mods. In my opinion your mods would still qualify as a production gun. I think your mods are more of a personal comfort issue than an advantage. I do agree, the mods you did definitely make the package nicer to shoot.

Hey CF....no worries..it wasn't my intention to correct you, just to show what can be done with an XD and few bucks. :D
Unfortunately, although I agree with your assessment that my mods were "personal", they would get me kicked out of Production. Apparently they would make me a contender for World Champion.

What is there to upgrade except maybe night sights?? These are DUTY pistols, not race guns.

Ive got a this for my XD40:

-tritium nite combat sites
-heavy steel rod
-24 lb aftermarket recoil spring
-9mm conversion barrel

Theres lots of stuff you can buy for the XD line.

I shot my last IPSC match (Production) with my XD40 Tactical. While the trigger reset is not as good as my Glock(s) my XD40 is still good enough to be competitive in both the Production or Standard division. I have gone over 25k rounds without any problems or FTF's.

I know Bartledan had a Lemon, yep that happens. XD's are not for everyone... nor are Glocks.
