Go to powder for .270 Winchester?

With 270, I've had great results with H4831sc (the most consistent performer - 130, 140, 150gr), RL 26 (140gr) and IMR4350 (lighter bullets, 130gr).

Note that my rifle is a complete custom, with a 27"#3 barrel. Case in point, I have two custom rifles with 27" barrels and the third one is in it's infancy being built, again with a 27" barrel. Purpose for the long barrels is that I hunt open and semi-open terrain for flatter trajectory.

Thank you! Much appreciated. I only have a 24" barrel so my velocities will be less ... I will be happy if I reach 3200 fps ... and the accuracy is close to 1 MOA. But I will include the 55.0 grain charge weight in my test ladder. Alliant has a given a 55.3 grain maximum value for a Nosler Partition 130 grain bullet and a 24" barrel yielding 3202 fps .... so I will load ladder up to that amount starting from a minus 10 percent starting charge weight and going up in .5 grain increments. I use a Magnetospeed chronograph so collecting the velocity data will quick and easy right from the muzzle.

I will try to employ a pressure dynamics approach first to find several speed nodes of stability that shows low ES and SD values. Once I have several speed nodes identified I will use a rifle dynamics approach to find the most accurate speed node for my rifle.

Very nice rifle setup that you have there!

I love long rifle barrels. I have typically only 200 to 300 yard maximum shots in the open area where I hunt. I will not shoot beyond 250 yards generally but the 270 Winchester is nice and flat shooting within this range.
