thanks to everyone who gave ideas in my 'lookin for a 1911 suggestions' post.

i think im going with a Para. Now i need suggestions on which one...I have about $1500 budget....if thats even enough?

i guess for shooting at targets...i just want the best model i can afford, it doesnt need to be for any specific purpose........how many purposes can u have a gun in canada for besides target shooting unless u are a cop or a BRINKS person of some sort?

I will still recommend the Para SSP. It is a single stack, single action and is pretty much fully loaded. You can then spend the rest on customizations, accessories and ammo. Maybe even a low cost 9mm such as a CZ.

Best Para EVER, IMHO, is the P16 40 Limited. Wonderful pistol.
+2.
Literally...I have just acquired my second...
I have had a 18 9 Limited with the LDA trigger and it has made an outstanding
unit for informal target, IPSC Production, plate matches, teaching newbies..
It has been reliable and has digested everything that I've fed it...
I have just picked up another one in 45 ACP.
I would go with the Limited, but in 9mm, with the LDA trigger.....
Easy to handle, accurate, modest recoil, versatile, and reliable....

I recommend P16-40 like HKFan & Foxbat said. Their 10-round factory mags suck tho. You will need to buy an after market full metal tube mag.

The 16-40's are nice for sure. However I'm going to play the devils advocate here and say your first 1911 should be a single stack, single action 45. The ssp gets my vote.

Of course I am a total hypocrite being I shoot a double stack .40.

I've got a P-14 LTD in .45ACP that I love. If you're looking for a double stack, the Paras are nice, especially with all the new finishes. The SSP is very nice, or if you'd like something a little smaller, the LTC is a beaut! With the Paras, you have the choice of going with a traditional 1911 type trigger system, or Para's proprietary LDA (light double action) trigger system. If you're looking at mostly plinking/target practice, a model with adjustable sights might be more practical for you...or you can simply swap out the fixed combats afterwards. It sometimes takes a little tweaking to get fixed combats to shoot to point of aim with your chosen load.

I will third, fourth,or fifth the p-16 40 limited.I have had one for many years and it is a great pistol.I think I paid $1374 when I bought mine in 96 or 97.Shot about ten thousand rounds through it with no problems to speak of.Not up to date on the newer models but my old one is sure nice!!
