Good .223 bolt gun

I have an AR in .223, but what would be a good quality bolt .223 gun ?

something that is know for reasonably good accuracy & reliablity, but not
too pricy ? I'm thinking for under $ 1,000.00.

Just for once & a while & for the young one to start shooting a real calibre.
 
cz is fantastic, but the savages are really good for the money too. either choice would be a good one
 
I had a Savage 110FPLE and loved it! With some load developement and a bit of time it shot amazing groups. Another CGN member is now the proud owner :(

Cant beat the price either ;)
 
I picked up a Matte finnish SPS Remmie in .223 from SIR awhile back for 550ish inc taxes and shipped to my door ;)
Plenty of 223 for a Beginner to start with and definately puts more $'s into your Scope Budget ;)
 
Remington VLS, VSF, or LVSF

I own the LVSF, its one hell of an accurate rifle that is also nice to pack.

Bang for the buck might be a Savage, but Id rather pay a bit more for a Remington. the VLS (Varmint Laminate Stock) is probably the best bang for buck IMO.

Thanx for the info guys. I'll look into the 3 guns recomended & choose one.
I'm sure price will play a role, not the only one, but don't want to spend to much, leave some money for a scope.
I will not be using for regular matches. just plinking & maybe once in a while as a 4th gun in a 4 gun match.

I guess accuracy & cost $ would be the 2 main factors. a good combo of the two.

Id go with a Heavy varmint gun by Remington.
 
The CZ states that it is a 1:12 and 1:14 twist. I have a Ruger M77 with a 1:12 and for longer than 300 yards I wish I would have held out for a 1:9 rifle. I am actually considering changing the barrel to a 1:8 or 1:9 so I can reach out to 500 yards consistantly, the 55 gr just doesn't seem to cut it, I would opt to be around the 70 - 75 gr.
 
I've got a Rem 700 in .223 with a heavy barrel and a Rem 7 in .223 with a 24" sporter barrel on it. Both shoot very, very well.

For a first time .223 on a budget thought I'd be very tempted to try out a Stevens 200. Or for a heavy barrel a Savage 10LE in it.
 
I would like to get good accuracy at longer distances when required or choose to do so, so which one of the above guns comes w/ less than a 1: 12 twist, like a 1:9 twist or 1:10 (if such thing?)
