Good 22lr pistol? Not target type

Would you pick the m and p over the Taurus?

I don't think I would but I only have a couple of hundred rounds through the TX22 so far. Both triggers are pretty good, with the trigger being lighter in the TX22 and the TX22 can fire without the mag installed, if either of those things are important to you. Either one is a great plinker. I don't know if you can still get a new M&P. Both feel light in the hand, with the Taurus being the lighter of the two.

It would be run and gun type shooting and plinking, nothing too serious

I was looking for the same thing and settled on the PPQ .22 with the 5" barrel and fibre optic front sight. Tons of fun and I have run that thing hard and it has not let me down. Fits like a glove in PPQ kydex holster from Soley Canadian. I still have my old trusty Ruger MkII for more target style shooting.

The new tan FN 502 tactical looks wicked and it's been getting great reviews. I have the GSG 1911 and Taurus TX22 but I'll be buying the FN when it comes out in Canada.

Good 22lr pistol? Not target type What is a good 22lr tx22 seems to get great reviews, I am a little reluctant to get in bed with Taurus, there’s the ruger sr22, ppq22, m and p 22, colt1911 22 ,but not really wanting a1911 type 22, thinking m and p , walther, ruger sr, am I missing anything.

As far as 'good' pistols go, you won't find anything nicer that the used High Standards in the Equipment Exchange. But it seems to me that what you want is a training analog to a centerfire pistol, so what I would suggest to you is choosing the .22LR version of the centerfire pistol that you really want. If you want a S&W, get a S&W. If you want a Walther, get a Walther. If you want a Taurus, get a Taurus. If you want a Ruger, get a Ruger. And finally, if you want a Glock, get a Glock.

Buck mark and victory nice guns but are that target type,

What is your definition of target? Paper punching, or full on Bulleye? I can do all with my Buckmark..

Pretty much every 22LR pistol made this day, has been modified for "run in gun" With Victory, Ruger and Buckmark is leaders for Steel Target etc...

Ruger wrangler can be had brand new for under 300 on sale. Almost always on sale it seems. It’s good enough for just plinking. I also have a browning 1911 black label. I really like it but it is a pretty small frame

^^This^^ If you do choose an S&W MP 22, get some Williams Firesights to replace the originals.

Then any of the tactical / duty looking options mentioned in this thread should work. You said no 1911 pattern, no target format, and I assume no revolver from your comments. I'm guessing you don't care about hammer vs. striker fired.

I think these are the commonly available options so far:

Glock 44
M&P 22
Ruger SR22
Taurus TX22
Walther PPQ22

There are also harder to find / more costly options:

Beretta M9-22 and 87
CZ Kadet
Sig 226, and other 22 conversions

Am I missing anything?

Generally, I'll add that if you want a holster and extra mags, I'd source these before committing to a particular pistol.

And if you can handle the pistol options in person, you really should. They will all feel very different in the hand. No point in picking out a plinking pistol that doesn't make you want to shoot it.

I was thinking the same thing.I guess it's the tacticool look some people want.

Perhaps, the best full size .22LR pistol in Canada. I bought one in 2016. So far, over 4,000 shots through the pipe without even one hickup.Usually, I've been using various brands of HV ammo. It has a steel slide which is uncommon. A very accurate pistol. Unfortunately, the original GP K22S disappeared from the Canadian market. The new version is the Grand Power K22 TS with 6" barrel which is unfortunately (but predictably) over $200 dollars more expensive than the K22S.

Another option would be to put the Beretta .22 conversion slide and barrel on a Beretta 92A1 or 92FS. That works quite well, but finding magazines is an issue. Very little recoil with that setup.
