Good auto Shot gun for trap and skeet

You may be right there, but if I was going to get back into the trap thing and I wanted to be competative, I would get a dedicated trap gun and a sporting gun for everything else including doubles trap.

A 77! Not too shabby:)That was Silver Willow! I just got back into clays after being away for about 12 years. It's for me! I can be competative there and with a little practice I managed to sneak into A class and I think I might be AA or low masters next year, the Lord willing! but nearing 60 I do not have the $$$$, dedication and desire to be at the top of my game to go back to trap. I just happen to live within 30 minutes of a place where I can shoot trap, skeet, 5 stand, and international trap and skeet, and I too have the support of a loving wife:D

Sorry to get off track. I love o/u's but for recoil reasons I plan to get a 391 this year. Only one wife, but no limit on guns:)

Buy a 391 instead of an o/u for recoil reasons? I would be willing to bet you haven't found a quality o/u that fit you properly. Because with a good one recoil is not an issue.

I've registered about 30,000 targets while I was competing. Started with a new Citori Trap with a factory recoil pad that was hard as a rock. Did some mods still a heavy gun. Then bought a nicer Citori with the forcing cones removed and a soft-touch stock. Very nice to shoot. While I still had the 2nd Citori I aquired a Rem 3200 Special Trap. Loved it. Had the best fit and lowest recoil. Won a lot with that gun. Ordered in a new 11-87 Pemier Trap in left hand. Thought I'd use it just for singles and handicap. Won a lot with that one too. Used the 3200 for doubles and did ok with it.

Then for ####s & giggles I shot a practice round of 50 doubles with the 11-87. Shot a 49! Tried again and hit all 25 pairs! Later that day the wind came up a bit and I decided to use it for the doubles match. At the time I was a B class doubles shooter with the 3200. This was the Edmonton City Championships at the then new Edmonton Gun Club. Managed a 97 in the wind and took top place. Beat some of my idols like Rob Docherty and Allan Day!

The auto had a definite recoil advantage, for me at least, over all the O/U's I owned and had modified to fit me. That 11-87 won me a few pieces of pewter and a coveted belt buckle for being the 1997 Western Zone Mid-handicap champ. And that's why I fell in love with auto's for trap.

Any auto with a backbored barrel, I believe, will shoot softer than the best single or O/U.

My O/U fits properly and recoil is an issue. Many, Many people go to autoloaders for the 12 ga due to recoil.

Brad.

The only time I am bothered by recoil with my o/u is if I go over 100 rds in an afternoon.

A normal Saturday/Sunday trap competiton for me was 500-600 targets. Add to that a few practice rounds, lets say another 100 targets. And if you get into a shootoff, I was in one with 3 of us that lasted 150+ targets to determine a winner.

If I only shot 100 a day, your right that recoil is no concern,

I shoot an yearly clays competition with a group of guys. 600 targets in two days. Ammo is provided and mostly it's 3 dram 1-1/8 ounce.

After the first day I was wishing I'd brought my semi-auto, my own loads (mostly 1 ounce and 7/8s) or both.

Or my 28 gauge. ;)

For me, a standard event weekend is 500 birds, plus shootoffs plus what ever practice you may add. Typically another few hundred birds in the days leading up to the event.

It has been a few years since I've actually competed with 12ga. I do regret having to give up the 1/4oz of lead, but the payoff in recoil reduction makes it well worth it.

When I find the time and money I may set up a Beretta autoloader and shoot 12ga in the 12ga and doubles events like so many others have done.

Then you are bothered by recoil?

There is difference between shooting a round or two of trap and being a trapshooter! Trapshooters go past your 100 targets on a regular basis and then even with the best fit 12 gauge recoil will be an issue, especially if your a trap shooter that has earned significant handicap yardage and may use heavier loads. There is not one serious trap shooter that I know that has not taken steps to reduce felt recoil.

If you are bothered in any way now, it will not get better with more shooting.

First the Assyrain and now you! This thread has been big on 391s. How about a couple pics?

That Teknys is super shiney PE90SHOOTER. I need a jeweled bolt too!

Maybe I should take a new pic, since I actually cleaned it :)

Hope to shoot again this Sunday @ Barrie
