Good-bye Tikka T1X..........

they got rid of the rear tang that was rather useless anyways, so it appears shorter but has nothing to do with it's working length

believe it or not, I don't own, and have never owned a 455 model, I have a collection of 452's and the barrel change idea never appealed to me so I had no reason to own one, it will however be a staple feature of the new 457 series

^this is the reason I haven't looked at new CZs since they stopped making 452s. The 457s look beautiful and I'm keeping an open mind...but when CZ wants to start threading barrels into their receivers again, they'll have my attention.

the 457 has a nice rubber recoil pad and a metal thread protector, as for the engraving, well it it far to deep to just simply sand out....
Not sure about the precision trainer, it's a little to early to make heads or tails as to what's what with the accessories, give it time and we'll have answers, but the wood with the nicer metal comes at a price over the plastic fantastic offerings that is hard to swallow for a receiver that is still no drilled and tapped for bases

I really want to check out the 457, the more Im hearing about the more some of the "issues" I had with the 455 are being addressed, of course they still went with the dovetail which isn't a deal breaker in the grand scheme of things as long as it's not a new rail all together. I will be considering a varmint precision trainer for sure!

+1

Right now i'd only consider a 455/457 if I was in the market for a utility/workhorse rimfire. A stainless synthetic model to be a truck gun is about the only thing that interests me, considering the wood on the 452 is nicer than the 455 (IMO) and not engraved like the 457. My 452 collection consists of heirloom/collectors, and shooters; nothing in the 455/457 lineup strikes me as either of those yet due to the engraving and barrel fit design.

Aside from the engraving on the stock done by the 5 year old Russian kid, the reports coming in on the accuracy and general build quality are all quite good. Will be on my 2019 shopping list.

.22lr barrel arrived today, so may get a chance to shoot it tomorrow pending how I feel and the weather.
Was nice to get quoted by someone on this forum over on the RFC forum, I asked about paid advertising over there and not one of them got back to me, therefore I try not to support them with either information or encouragement, the rfc discount code was and is meant as a slap in the face to them

If the 455 was less accurate than the 452. Wouldn't putting a 455 barrel on your new 457 on it make less accurate than a 452? Or is the barrel the same on all three models?

The 457 uses the same barrels and barrel system as the 455 it is replacing

Nice rifle - except for the ugly engraving on the stock. I guess I'll struggle along with my 6 455's. :)

but did i mention the real rubber recoil pad and metal thread protector????

yeah I agree, it's nothing special in the CZ world but compared to the new Tikka.......Tikka has a long ways to go to match the competition

I thought about getting a t1x but after realizing just how much plastic was on that rifle ( my God even the thread protector is plastic) I quickly realized the cost of relacing the palstic with wood and metal would almost double the cost of the rifle. Then I seen this CZ 457 MTR and now I realy want one. I guess I will have to waite untill they hit the market here in Canada and find one so I can have a hands on look at it. So if it looks good and the price is around a G note I may just pick one up.

That's the one I would be interested in as well. I have a 452 varmint. The T1X doesn't interest me due to the crappy stock it comes in. I did have a possibility of picking up one of the T3X A1 tac chassis which while not cost effective I would have gone for. Except... the T1X won't work in the Tikka Chassis. Hard pass.

Can't tell from the pics but is the trigger guard still just a flat unshaped piece of steel. I like my 452 and 455 but the trigger guards always looked unfinished to me. I also don't like the engraved name in the stock. I will make a final decision after I get to handle one, ordered a 455 for my daughter. :d

If I wanted a Rifle with a wood stock I would have bought a Cooper. Maybe even an Anschutz.

I was pretty pumped for the t1x. Until I handled one that is. I feel it was poorly executed and though it seems they shoot well there are a few issues I can't get over. I hate the mag and I hate the thread protector. I would get one that wasn't threaded if it was an option. Threaded barrels are kind of useless in canada anyway imo. This cz looks pretty nice just not sure why they decided in the engraving.

And if I want a synthetic stocked rifle I want Macmillan, HS or st least KRG or a chassis option. Not the garbage Tikka synthetic stock. I’m willing to accept Tupperware on a $600 centerfire rifle with a decent action/barrel but not on a $650 rimfire that quickly turns into Cooper/Anschutz priced or more once you change that stock to something decent.

To be fair I think CZ also missed the boat with their new “tactical” version. Painted laminate? Come on. Offer a real tactical stock.
