Hey Guys,

I spotted a used Winchester model 94 30-30 at a local gun shop and am wondering if it is a good deal or if I should back away.

The serial # shows that it was made in 1955
The gun itself is in decent shape i guess for the age
The bluing on the barrel and receiver has some wear of course as well as the stock and for end so this gun has definitely been used
There is a little bit of pitting and rust on the top of the receiver, but very minimal can only see it if you look really close
The action seems to cycle smooth
I tried looking down the bore with a light as far as i can see the crown looks good and the rifling is still there
I don't see any deep scratches or major flaws in the chamber
The trigger feels nice and crisp
And the sights seem in good order

The guy is asking 700 but is willing to let it got for 600, not sure but I think this is decent price.
I'm no veteran when it comes to lever action any advice would be appreciated,

Thanks.

I have a 1957 made model. No pitting, blue is good. Stock was replaced due to a crack through the wrist.

My Dad bought it new in 57 and passed it along to me a good few years back.

Even with the sentimental connection I wouldn't expect to get more than 400 bucks for it on a good day. These aren't exactly rare rifles..

With new Model 94's going for 1200.00+?
I wouldn't call that a deal but not out of range for a pre 64 garden variety 30-30.
25-35 / 38-55 /32 Special maybe more.

You'll find the same thing for a couple hundred less on the EE if you keep your eyes open. But if you like this one and want it... It'll serve you well.

Thanks for the help guys, figured the guy is pricing the gun with sentimental attachment.

I did originally offer 450, thought that was fair considering there are a few pre 64s on the EE right now that look in better condition for around the same price.
It doesn't help that the store takes 20% off for consignment.
