We'll try harder. I've been trying to be good lately.

What does the thread title say?? "Good non restricted AR type rifle". Tell how a Valmet, a Swiss, an XCR, or any of the bullpup garbage is anywhere close to an "Ar type rifle"??
I especially found the comments on "wrong caliber" quite instructive.
Thx for the support guys and pointing out a few missing ones. I'll add them in.
I typed most of it out as a general resource for the "What NR Rifle do I buy .." crowd as most (if they are anything like me when I was researching my first NR purchase) are not aware of the options that exist beyond the usual couple that get thrown about or are the most popular and are usually not up to date on general pricing beyond the few they have researched. It's a starting point for the decision making process: start wide with all available options and narrow down to the ones that merit further consideration based on an individual's requirements.
PS. Ab_Blaster: Thx for letting us know what is an AR derivative. Without your help, I doubt anyone would have figured it out and I am blessed to have finally seen the light of the AR world's awesomeness. I especially found the comments on "wrong caliber" quite instructive.
Edited the original list with the additions/ deletions pointed out.
Good point. Thx! Will give that a try to see if we can get traction for a sticky.
I have often considered doing the same, but many will accuse you of giving the anti-gunners a list of firearms to lobby for prohibitions against. We all know the RCMP are fully aware of what is available but lots of the General Public does not know and to the lefty alarmist's some of it might be quite frightening. It would be a handy resource for sure but it won't just be used by newcomers looking to get into the sport but rather for hit pieces in the media as well as by ignorant anti-gunners to make demands.
If you decide to go ahead be prepared with your flame suit as you will be well cooked by those who feel the risk outweighs the benefit.
If KiddX wasn’t back on the board I’d swear AB blaster was his second account. Lol
For those who apply logic and are concerned with tangible features the shape is of no value. Same for push pins.
Agreed. The ability to field strip a rifle without tools is not useful.
Oh wait.
Yes it is.
By everyone.
Eventually.

In all seriousness, if you think wanting tool-free takedown is at all similar to subjective things like aesthetics, you know nothing about gun design.

Tool free takedown is most beneficial for service rifles, this is not a service rifle and never will be. I agree that tool less takedown is nice but it is absolutely not necessary. Plenty of firearms require tools, in fact nearly all bolt actions require tools, all revolvers require tools, all pump actions require tools. The great FN FAL requires tools. Like I said, the use of push pins and the angled mag well have zero effect on performance or reliability. Push pins absolutely make the rifle more user friendly.

inYou do know what field stripping is, right?
Sorry! Just couldn't abide that someone would consider tool-free field stripping to be some sort of subjective feature rather than an absolute must-have on any modern gun.
Well, this comes down to what OP meant by "AR-Type rifle." What's an AR? First of all, it's Semi-automatic, magazine fed rifle that flings 5.56. That can make for a pretty wide definition. AT the end of the day, a Type97 does the same thing an AR15 does. The AR15 is most well known as the civilian variant of a common service rifle, which might also be what the OP meant. What's wrong with presenting OP with all the possible information and letting him investigate? OP will know what he wants better than you or I do.
OK so are you helping OP find an AR-type rifle or aren't you? A large appeal of the ARs is they have the features of service rifles, including tool-less field strip as a key component. It's absolutely a factor to be considered.
Or maybe OP wants something that *looks* like an AR, and function doesn't matter, which you scoffed at moments ago, even though that would make the SLR a main contender.
Again, tool less take down is great, but it's not a feature that improves on function or reliability of the firearm.
