I find myself getting sick of having to drag my briefcase-like pistol case and two smaller pistol cases to the range every week. I want to buy a pistol bag of some sort that can hold 2-3 pistols, bunch of mags and ammo in one bag. I don't want to re-finance my house to do it. Suggestions?

I bought some bags at Princess Auto. They are designed for packing tools and are quite rugged and reasonably priced. I don't know if you could easily put a lock on the zipper?? I have a couple of small ones for ammo, and a bigger one for sandbags, targets, stapler, etc.

Optics Planet in US sells the Uncle Mikes pistol bag for about $22. I bought 3 of them.

Each bag has 3 zippered and lockable pistol compartments plus a main section to hold scope, ammo, glasses, etc, has a lot of small compartments, too, for screw drivers, etc.

so you could carry 3 pistols in one of them?

I bought a Kuny tool bag at my local Totem for less than $30 and it would easily fit 3 pistols and a pile of mags/ammo. Tool bags in general make good range bags because they are made to carry heavy objects and a big pile of ammo won't fall through the bottom. You just have to find the right bag for your purposes.

Uncle Mike's pistol bag has three lockable, zippered compartments, so it willc arry 3 pistols. included is a paded pouch, so you could put 2 in one compartment, without them banging into each other, so you could actally carry 4.

I use freezer bags to wrap my guns and routinly carry 5 or six in the bag.

Is that the one WSS has for $51.99?

do you guys generally prefer a soft range bag, or a hard plastic case like a big toolbox? i've seen people use both types, but the simplest and most functional i've seen was one guy with a big plastic toolbox kinda thing, the type with a pull-out handle and wheels. seemed big enough to carry a lot of stuff, and could double as a place to sit. about the size of a cooler, maybe a bit bigger.

another question...never heard of a pistol rug before now....

if i buy several of them and lock each "rug" can it be legally transported in a range bag? it is opaque and locked.....

I’ve seen those too and at first look they seem very handy. I’m just not disciplined enough to use one. You see, the more room I have, the more stuff I’ll take. I’d fill one of those rolling boxes to capacity with things I don’t take along now, but become absolutely essential when I’ve got the room. Murphy’s Law: “Stuff expands to fill the available space” definitely applies to me. Given a large enough case, I’d fill it to the point where I’d need help just getting the damn thing out of the trunk of my car!

Figure out what you need to take, and get a bag to fit. Soft bags are more versatile than hard cases IMO, although hard cases are needed in some cases (like airline travel). Most of the big-box hardware retailers carry a large zippered tool bag. I’ve seen lots of those on the range and they work well. They also have the advantage of a single heavy duty zipper which can be locked.
just my $.02

Google "Apocalypse Knives" and on their website, search for "Range bag".

The last one is a 5.11 range ready bag, best bang for the money, this bag is amazing! at least 60$ cheaper than anywhere in canada.

I've been using a laptop case that I got for $25 for my handguns I can fit 4 ahndguns in there. I've seen other shooters use those too.

for all my other stuff - ammo, targets, mags, ipsc rig (belt, mag pouches, holster) ect. I use a regular duffel bag but I been wanting to upgrade to something a little nicer with more 'pockets'.

Do the handguns bang around each other in that thing? I run a computer store I have endless laptop bags supply lol
