Good place to buy a range bag

antler-tronic-z500-laptop-bag.jpg

Laptop bag like advised above (only with bigger pockets), looks like you can fit a hardcase inside with a few pistols and ammo/mags in the compartments. Throw it over your shoulder and it's pretty easy to carry, not to mention won't attract unwanted attention

^ or you could just wrap each pistol in a small towel before packing it in there. then they won't bang each other and you've got something handy to wipe them down with and place them on (towel on table, gun on towel).

Range bag

another question...never heard of a pistol rug before now....

if i buy several of them and lock each "rug" can it be legally transported in a range bag? it is opaque and locked.....

I called the RCMP to see if a locked range bag was legal for transport provided the gun had a trigger lock or something to disable the gun. They told me it still should be in a locked rigid case.
To me this is stupid considering the lock hasps on most cheap cases are thin plastic and could be cut with a plastic butter knife.
Seems to fit in with all the other rules out there to protect us from our selves.

check the laws very specifically and carefully. there's a HUGE difference between "should" and "shall" when it comes to legalese - one is "hey, this sounds like a good idea, and while it would be nice to see it done this way to give us all the warm-n-fuzzies, it's not actually necessary or required" and the other is "you MUST do this, no questions about it"

:D

so to clarify, it is legal to do as i proposed considering the individual bags are locked and the firearms have a lock as well?

i think bags might be tricky to be honest, since IIRC it states that the (locked) handgun is to be transported in a locked (you're ok here), opaqe (you're ok here too), "difficult to break into" container (this is the iffy bit, since bags generally aren't difficult to break into). but you likely COULD have the locked handgun in a just-barely-big-enough locked case, and keep THAT with your other gear in a bag. basically, instead of individual bags have individual just-barely-big-enough difficult-to-break-into cases.

but i'm just going from memory here, and it's past midnight here, so i could have a mistake somewhere in there. check the letters of the law to be sure and don't assume anything one way or the other.

coleman cooler from a grarage sale $5.00), barn door type latch from UFA ($2.37) on it for a lock, fits lots, when at the range take out what you need.

ya, my issue was that i have several firearms that i'd like to transport at the same time....

pick up a larger case and cut the foam, or if you intend on having LOTS of stuff in there pick up a pro-audio style case and have at it. they're generally bigger and have tougher hardware, and probably have the ability to toss a lock onto them.

go down to Steve's Music or find a Long & McQuade nearby, and check out what they have for generic music equipment cases (aka flight cases).

but then i need another case for ammo which defeats the point of this thread. I took my laptop case yesterday. It was like 40lbs with 3 pistols and 200rd in it lol.

does the ammo need to be in a locked case too? Princess Auto sells surplus ugly green ammo boxes, so if the ammo can be in an UNlocked case, then that might be alright. i can't recall right now what the laws are for ammo transport.

brass and lead are heavy mofos - i dunno if i'd want to keep them along with steel firearms in the same case if that case doesn't have wheels. then again, i'm not built like Arnold, so.........

Ammo does not need to be locked up in transport. Thinking about weight is a good idea, my range bag must weigh 50-60lbs with a good load of ammo and accessories in it and that does not include any guns. They get heavy very fast with a pile of ammo involved.

What about a small mobile tool box similar to this one? They're lockable and not too much $$. You don't have to pack them either.

Might not be what you had in mind, but an idea...
