good powder for 9mm

im just getting into reloading i have a lee pro 1000 set up to start reloading 9mm any sudjestions on a good powder to use that will work well in my ruger 9mm ?
plus any other tips would be good too
 
TiteGroup is one of the best. I tried several powders and am gonna stick with TG.TG seems clean burning, flows very well due to small size grains, low flash, easy to maintain PF without excessive pressure and fairly cheap, soft felt recoil and low-ish powder charges.
 
4.4 grains Universal under 124 grain Lee TC TL bullets. Max load is 4.7 grains Universal. Good target load. Haven't chrono'd yet but have had 100% functional reliability and decent accuracy (about 5" groups at 15 meters standing, me shooting:D that's why the groups are so big) from my Ruger P89.
 
TG takes a very small powder charge to get the job done. If the thrower makes an error, things go wrong very quickly.

Felt recoil with TG is high.

231 is a bit slower, but the dirtiest powder I have ever used.

VV N320 is clean and a wonderfl powder, if you can find it. if you do, buy seevral pounds.

I find IMR 7625 to be a very good all round powder. In many of my guns it gets the best accuracy. Felt recoil is lower.
 
Well, I'll add 231 to the popular list. That's the only thing I use. When I run out, I'm going to start experimenting with TG. I have 8lbs of that stuff.

Nothing to compare yet, but I have to say, 231 is really dirty. Shots great though. I'm hoping TG to be just as accurate but cleaner.

Off topic a bit... I loaded 6gr of TG for my 44mag using Lee 240gr cast mold. I shot it with my S&W 629 6.5" resting on bench. Was able to make 1" group at 25m (slightly expanded 4 leaf clover). I'm sure the gun can still shoot better than that. I can't do that with my P226. Not yet.
 
Hmmmm, I just looked at my reloading data and I thought that I was at least close to max but now see that I can go a bit more. I'm going to up it a bit and see what happens.

You will have to try out some different powders to determine what your Ruger likes and feeds well. It's really kind of fun trying different powders, changing the loads and bullet weights. If you are shooting indoors than for sure you need a clean burning powder and a jacketed bullet not lead. The loading manual or data spec you use will give you all the specifics. Go check out the Winchester site you can download the powder data there. Word of warning don't start with the max. load. Hot loads are harder on the handgun. Try a lower load first.

I have a Ruger P89 and I didn't come across any power I put through it that it didn't like. The highest fps powder I tried was Bullseye. And that was fun.

If your buying factory ammo to build up some brass. The cleanest factory ammo I found is Winchester Win Clean. I didn't even have to clean it to reload it.
