Good Rabbit Snare Wire, Where to get some?

I have a giant roll of .035 mig wire in the basement that I acquired at school. Almost a full roll (it weighs like 15lbs), someone left the cover off while welding, and got some spatter on the roll, so the teacher was going to throw it out. It's super strong for the thickness, and i've been using it to wire stuff together for the last year. Anyone have any thoughts on whether this would make decent snare wire? It's copper coated steel, and I've tried to break it by bending back and forth and pulling on it, and you'll definitely cut yourself before it breaks.

I, like everybody else in Quebec, use the brass stuff. I double it up to anchor the branch or pole. I have never needed anything stronger.
 
How is it that the rabbit can break the snare wire?
(Note that I am only familiar with east coast rabbits)

The only time I have seen that happen is when someone mistakenly ties
the snare to a fixed object such as a tree.

A rabbit snare should only be anchored to a movable object such as a short stick or branch.
That way the rabbit cannot get any leverage to break the wire. I have never seen a rabbit
drag the stick any more than a few yards before its done.

If you tie the snare to a tree, the rabbit will tug, pull and thrash and cause a lot of damage
or break the snare. If left loose it will simply roll/run around for a short time before it is choked.

I've snared rabbits all my life & never thought twice about not spilling their blood.

I bet he is strangling his meat as we speak... I am no bible thumper... But I know enough to know that in the bible there is a longtime recurring theme of people of virtue harvesting animals in many ways..

If your snares are set in Southern Ontario, you would be breaking the law. They are only allowed north of the french and Mattawa Rivers, according to the Regs.
From the summary:

Snares cannot be used for hunting, except by the holder of a
resident small game licence taking varying hares north of the
French and Mattawa rivers with a snare constructed of copper
or brass wire between 22 and 24 gauge. The opening of the
snare wire loop must be 10 cm (4 in.) or less in diameter.
Licensed trappers may use snares under conditions specified
in the trapping regulations

didn't get the memo? Right hand only, 8 squares, no more, no less, two flushes- once for the bulk, once for the remainder. You may evacuate only twice per day, once between the hours of 4 and 7AM (in WMU's 1-86, 3:30 and 6:30), and 6 to 9PM (6:30 to 9:30 in WMU's 1-86, 92A, 105C).

Infractions are punishable by having your thumb glued into your arsehole so you have to shyte out your mouth :)
