I too am a lefty and prefer the Glock most definitley.
As far as operation of the controls, no problem.
I use the meaty, middle part of my trigger finger to
activate the slide catch. (it pivots easy with moderate
pressure and catches every time). Keep your finger
straight, along the slide and the catch with contact the
underside portion of that finger. On one of my Glocks, I
have even bent the catch outwards, just a blonde one,
bringing it away from the frame a tad. It works too but
is not really needed.
The mag release is depressed with the tip of the same finger
easily enough and I don't have to break my grip.
Now, it may be because I have hands a bit on the smaller side,
but I have showed 'larger lefty handed' folk these methods
and they seemed to work for them also.
Something to try next time you're shoot'n a "G" model.

Poor technique
One small problem with factory Glock controls is that they are slim and that presents a problem for lefties.
You simply replace the factory slide release with an aftermarket one that has more definition.
You don't trade your car when you get a flat tire do you? The locked-back slide releases, when you pull back on the slide to chamber a cartridge.
When the magazine is empty and the slide is locked back, you would push down to release the slide on an empty chamber, like when you are packing your gun away to leave the range...

Interesting discussion........yea, I might be sorry but it's a done deal. I don't have very strong hands and can't seem to operate the slide lock with my finger, I have tried many times. I can eject the mag but find it uncomfortable.
Since we're throwing around opinions here's mine:
I think that trading in your Glock for a M&P for the above reasons is like trading in your BMW for a Ford Mustang, because the fuel door is on a more convenient side on the Mustang.
Is the M&P a decent pistol? Probably; the jury is still out on that one.
Is the Glock the most reliable, unbreakable, indestructible hand gun ever made? Without a doubt!

I hear ya but having the controls on the wrong side of the gun (for me
) is a big deal to me. It's amazing how strongly people feel about the Glock vs M&P issue. I'll report back after I use the M&P for a while.

yeah right, everyone really WANTS to shoot a gun with a grip like a 2x4 a trigger like a cap gun and that can go boom if you feed it lead bullets.
Actually I don't think Glocks are bad guns, to me it's just easier to hit well, and quickly with a more ergonomic pistol. Things like the ambi mag catch and slide release reduce operator work load so that you end up doing a better job of the sight picture, and the M&P trigger is better, and much easier to 'reset/fire' than the Glock.
I have never personally seen an M&P break, I have personally handled broken Glocks.
M&P design is only a couple of years old. The Glock has been on the market since the early 80s. Give the M&P 20 years and I'm sure we're going to see problems pop up.

Xman, your comparison does not make sense...the fuel door has nothing to do with operating/driving the vehicle...try shifting with your left hand, or braking with the left foot. If Glock was so smart he would have given more thought about southpaws!
I am left-handed and I have to use 2 hands to release my empty mag on a G22 and that on a combat/survival gun is totally inexcusable!
I am ordering a S&W M&P40 today!

Sorry to say this to you but you live in a world of fantasy dude.
Have a look around the internet and book stores for Glock data and testimonies.The S&W M&P is being issued to the US troops in the Golf and they are already having serious problems with them.
Nice wishful thinking though.
I'm not sure I'd be comparing Glock to BMW. VW Camper seems like a more appropriate comparison. The two are about equally exciting and the shape is similar
I agree, it's more like a Toyota and a Honda. Both are good, just which you prefer.
As much as I like the M&P, I have some doubt about the durability and reliability of the M&P compared to the Glock. Based on my own experience, I will not ditch my glock just yet until the M&P could actually prove itself to be reliable in the longer run. If I gonna pick one pistol and run right now, I will grab my glock, even though I can shoot the M&P much better.
