Hi All

I am interested in how the Brenneke slugs looks without the felt wad screwed in and how they are made but for the life of me I can not find any info on the net.

Has anyone looked into this and has some info?

For example in the picture below I have a picture of 3 different slugs I have.

The one on the left is the Challenger 12ga 1 1/8 oz found lots of info on that as it appears to be the DGS / Gualandi Borra-Proiettile

The one on the right is a 12ga 1 oz S&B slug and just seems to be a standard foster slug type design.

The one in the middle is the Rottweil Brenneke 12ga 1 1/8 oz

The questions I have about the Brenneke

- The lead part of the slug is shorter than the other slugs even though it is 1 1/8 oz is that because it does not have a hollow interior?

- any picture of a brenneke slug I have seen always has the felt wad screwed on does that mean the weight of the slug is calculated with lead plus wad?

- are the other slugs calculated that way as well for example challenger slug would be slug plus plastic bit (sorry about my non technical knowledge) even though they are like two separate components?

thanks for the link, I was really hoping he would unscrew the felt wad to see what the slug looked like. seen a few pics with everything attached but not the lead slug on its own.

Why are you asking those questions .... ??

Are you trying to reload a Brenneke? Are you concerned about it's penetration/performance?

If we would know what you are trying to get at ..... we might be able to help ....

Hi faustus

No plans for reloading and not wondering about penetration or performance have been able to find info on those things.

Its just purely a sense of curiosity, When i was reloading rifle ammo I would often take factory rounds apart and weigh the components and even put the bullets in the vice and cut them to see how they were put together or how thick the jacket was etc...

I currently live in a small apartment have limited tools, no vice, no reloading equipment e.g. a scale to weigh components. So I am not inclined or unable to do what I did in the past. This restriction hasn't been much of a problem as there is so much info on the internet chances are if you are thinking about something a few people have probably already done it. Like the great test you did on comparing various slugs.

This brings me back to the Brenneke slug, I know it shoots well in my shotgun from personal experience and I know they give great penetration from the people who have tested them. Just cannot seem to find any details on what that slug looks like with the felt wad screwed off, does the weight include the wad, brinell hardness of the lead. I know the info is not important from a practical point of view, but for such a famous slug was surprised I couldn't find any info. Other slugs I have used could always seem to find lots of info/pics.

delboybc, ... you have a knife and a screw driver .... right?

Why don't you cut one of your Brenneke rounds apart ... unscrew the wad .... take a picture of what you found ... and post it here?

Simple as that .... and I am sure there are other curious minds who would appreciate that picture ...

And for the weight .... maybe somebody on here can put a Brenneke on a scale and share the results ...

I will certainly think about it, I will most defiantly have to wait until my wife is out of the apartment :) she always had this worried look on her face when I started pulling bullets apart.
