Gopher shooting, Do you guys have rules to follow?

I couldn`t think of the word I was looking for (must be old age lol). Lets say: you and a buddy go hunting gophers, do you two abide by the "hunters safety" rule about shooting certain degrees from one another? What I`m really getting at and it peeves me to no end is: When you go hunting with someone (usually hunt alone) and it seems they have the notion that "who ever gets the shot quicker...wins" type of attitude. I took a guy out gopher shooting one time. He was at one end of the truck and I was at the other. We were both shooting in the same direction and it was like a blood bath from his end. Everytime I scoped a gopher I seen, it dropped dead before I could get a shot.
I wasn`t brought up this way when family would go out shooting. This bothered me to no end and I found it absolutely ruined my gopher hunt for that day. Have you guys ever experienced this before with your "once" fellow shooters????
I for one now, go out alone and have a blast plinking at gophers. Alot more relaxing too!!

I've taken a few people out & always set the "ground" rules before starting. Usually taking turns and the other acts as a spoter for hits or misses. This way everyone has fun & gets a chance. It's not a competition but a chance to get some exercise, shooting & fun all at the same time... No one leaves upset & plenty of hogs get terminated. Farmers happy too.

They're only gophers no need to fret over them there are plenty to go around in some area. When me and my buddies shoot we start off shooting together and then we walk off in our own in different direction keep tabs on each other. Then meet up again at the truck to reload and have at the dust rats together. I like to film so it's no big deal if he shoots a few more gophers than me.

BUT what this post really need are Pics and Video!:needPics:

Suffer'in succotash.......what the heck you shoot'in with to make the do the back flip?
What a hoot.

Rim fire under 150 yds just to keep it sporting. 6 br pushing 65 gr BTs @3400 fops and a 300 WSM with 125 gr @ 3700 fops... 6 br furthest hit was 710 yds and the 300 was 860... Both rifles have muzzle brakes on them so that the shooter gets to watch the show as well. One guy shoots one spots, fire 10-20 and switch. A awesome way to spend a weekend.

What kind of scope are you using to shoot gophers at 700+ yards?

WOW man, that "pop goes the weasel" song takes a guy back to another lifetime almost. lol. Havent heard that song since the early 90's, now I feel old.....

Scott. 6 br has a leupold 8-25 vx3, 300 has a NF 5.5-22. Now not all are first shot hits, but we shoot from an elevated position. Nikon spotter, zeiss range finder and ballistic comp on the I phone. Its all in good fun and the further out the better! We have about 2400 hectares of playground...
