Gopher Virgin Breaks Cherry ** GRAPHIC**

Hmmm, they are fun with the 22-250. I usually take them with the 22, but if I feel that the ones out at 200 yards are laughing at me....the 22-250 comes out to play.
You don`t like to do that too soon though, they tend to not want to play anymore for some very very odd reason???

Yes I kind of prefer the 22-250 shot! I am not interested too much in keeping them intact for eating or Taxidermy purposes......... I prefer the shoot and eviscerate calibre myself! LOL

Blasted about 100 this afternoon... it's sure nice when there is almost no wind!

Longest shot was 310 yards. 250 was easy as pie... gotta love BulletFlight and a wind meter. :)

Not the greatest pic, but the best shooting was right around this semi-dry watering hole. Far side is about 265 yards out... Blast one, within a minute there is one of his buddies showing up for 'free meat'! Shot about 50 here at ranges from 100-300 yards. Suprisingly hard to get the iphone to take a through the scope picture... couldn't get the carnage centered, but there are about 10 of the little cannibals within a 10 foot radius. Parts of gophers are spread further than that. ;)

Great afternoon of gopher poppin' Sunny and warm, little buggers sure blend in with the dead grass. Windy here though, have to relearn wind drift. Killed a bunch, scared some too.

Just toured a 1/4 section of pasture fixing the fences and didn't see one of the little basteeches. Must be winter killed, though the dogs had fun at a bunch of badger holes. My 455 came home unblooded, guess i'll have to check some other pastures tomorrow.

Just got back from Moose Jaw. First time down there gopher shooting. Went west into the hills and the pasture land was phenomenal, it was like heaven....but only seen maybe a dozen or two and spread out within 5-8 miles. I was astounded, the grounds were a gophers paradise....I was baffled.

The 1/4 section I secured permission on yesterday was insane with gophers. There were hundreds of them. Between my buddy and I plinking the long shots with my 22-250 and the pair of older gentleman whom we joined up with shooting the closer ones with their 22's we sure put a pasting on them.

Most of the farmers down that way have had a looooonnnggg go at driving the population down in that area.
Eventually they manage to topple the population base, with the result that the populations no longer are able to support much in the way of shooting. Makes for happy farmers though.

I was introduced to some folks that had 3 quarter sections, in the hills there, surrounded by posted land and infested with gophers. They had been complaining about them, when my wife suggested I could help them with their problem. Which I did!

Turned into being pretty close to a private gopher paradise, which evolved into being able to have access to the deer there too.
But we actually had to work at it to find gophers to shoot there the last year I was there (1999).

Cheers

First one was shot with (1) round of .22
Second one was shot with (10) rounds of .22
Third one was shot with (50) rounds of .22
