Got a black combat shotgun (590A1)

I have a Magpul fitted shotgun as well, but find the Magpul feels better with a short a LOP. (So tempted to get a 18.5" 590A1 and equip it with FDE Magpul furn)
I like and prefer the factory configuration on my 20" 590A1 for use with a longer LOP.
I just can't gel with the MOE forend when the LOP is over 12" because the rear handstop sits at an odd angle against the side of my palm/wrist area. With a shorter LOP, the handstop functions as it should and rests against the full edge of my palm, under my pinky finger.

I've kept my stock's LOP at the shortest length (12.5"?) Feels perfect, and like you said the forend handstop works wonderfully. You can hold the pump much further back than with the corncob style stock Mossberg forend.

we carried them at work when I did armoured car work. These parkerized guns looked like hell in about 3 months. The finish scratched off them very easily and there were imperfections all over the guns. If you were to guess how old they were, you'd think they had been kicked around for 20 years, when they were only a few months old. The speed feed stocks caused lots of issues; we were instructed to place 2 extra rounds of buckshot in them, and guards would return from shift without the 2 rounds. It was a total waste of time, as people would be in the middle of their shift and realize they had lost the rounds, then be on a scramble to try and find them. tracing your steps back and hopefully being able to recover the rounds off the street or where ever.
A few of the stocks actually came loose, and I remember one gun in particular that someone got out of the truck and the stock was twisted sideways.
they are a great gun, but need a good once over and locktite.

I see. One of the reasons why I stopped wearing titanium watches is due to the ease of scratching them. It appears that the parkerised finish is easily marred. I have no use for the speedfeed stock, one item I don't want.

hmmm...I actually find I can have my hand further back on the corncob than on the MOE.
With the MOE, I find the rear handstop digs into my wrist if I have my hand too far back on it. As a result I have the stock set to the shortest LOP so I can have my hand more on the middle of the MOE forend to avoid touching the rear handstop.

Great purchase. I too, think the Mossberg M590A1 is the best combat shotgun out there, next to the Benelli M4. I have a Mossberg with factory 14" barrel, Ghost ring sights, SpeedFeed stock, AMAZING shotgun. You can't go wrong with a Mossberg M590A1 :)

I have the 18.5 inch model with grs and speed feed stock. Stock is useless so never use it. Wish I had went with the 20 inch model and bead sight instead. Added a S and J 2 + extension and velcro side saddle. I have been abusing the hell out of it for a few years and it works flawlessly. Highly recommended.

The Mossberg M590A1 (20" or 14" bbl) ....hands down the BEST combat shotgun, second to the Benelli M4 Super 90.

Built like a tank....SUPER reliable....and VERY accurate with Ghost ring sights....for around $700 NIB.....can't be beat. A 9-shot defender.

Remington eat your heart out lol :)

Great purchase ...enjoy ;)

I have 2 Mossy 500's but have yet to pull the trigger on a 590A1. I'm hoping to get the 14" A1 that Irunguns is trying to import, we'll have to wait about 5 weeks for the word on the export approval/denial. If that's a no-go, I'll buy another 590A1 configuration. I want one with a bayonet, because it's cool as hell :dancingbanana:

What do you guys think, 20" 9 shot, or the shorter 18.5" 7 shot?

I've decided I need a Mossberg 590a1, but which length!? I felt the shorter on in the store and it shoulders very nicely, easy to maneuver. I'm worried the 20" will be too heavy when loaded up - what do you guys think???

The 20" is heavy loaded up, but it doesn't stay loaded for very long.;) I'm also not carting it around. Stand, aim, shoot. It also has a bayo lug and simply looks more badazz than the 18.5.
Both are great though. I have a few 18.5" shotguns already, so wanted a longer full capacity one.

Great choice! You can't go wrong with either length but a mag extension on the 18.5" is a must IMO to complete the "look" and obviously to increase capacity.
I find the 20" is a bit nose heavy when fully gassed up but like Power Valve says "it doesn't stay loaded for very long":) Also, there's nothing like a full-sized Battle Shotgun!
