Got bison tag in alberta. Now need jacketed 400 gr .458 bullets. Where to find?

I have a box of Hornady bullets 458 round nose 45 in the box and they are 500 gr if you need them. FS

I would be interested to know if they would even cycle through the action. The 1886 isn't really that big. But thank you for the offer. I will keep you in mind.

Might want to check regs on this one. I dont know about Alberta, but in BC one needs to use a minimum 175 projectile for Bison. they can be both the biggest pussies...just lying down and dying, or can soak up multiple great hits from heavy calibers.

Personally if as he says...he won the lottery. I would think the heavy slow bullets from the 45-70 would be ideal...eat right up to the hole. Having something longer range handy if you get only a longer shot, maybe 300 WM?? Think i saw you had a 338 WM...that can take the longer shots.

Traditional yes, but since you are unlikely in the extreme to ever draw this tag again....make sure.

No such reg in Alberta. I think the most important thing is to get the animal on the ground quickly so regardless of calibre, shot placement is key. I don't want to get into any debate here about wounded animals and missed shots, we have all heard those arguments before. I just think, if you have a bison in a good spot, get him down before he gets to a bad spot. A big bore is of no use if you punch him through the lungs and he runs off a couple hundred yards when you could have had him dead in his tracks.

Bobjoe I'm a little envious of your Buffalo tag ,lucky man ...I load my 86 carbine (Browning ) with the 350 grain Hornady over 4198 for around 2100 fps ,its my Moose rifle and it really knocks the good right out of 'em ...over the bench shes a little rough ,but hunting you'll never know it went off,the 400 grain bullets really give you a root for sure I used them exclusively before I discovered the Hornady's ...and I changed over because of the tougher construction of the Hornady. The Woodleigh is supposed to be a great bullet from I've read but I've never had the chance to use it ,but that will change when the next tag comes round .

Good luck!

I currently use the 350 hordandy over 51 gr of h4895 and it downed a moose last year. It also shoots way better than a 45-70 should with that load.
