Got my .50AE bullets from the States

Hey Win Shooter,
Is this the pin that needs to get punched out? Will I then need to knock the whole section off the barrel by hitting the lug?

Well, I finally got my .50cal bullets. Here's the time frame.

August 5th applied for import permit.
August 11th received import permit and sent to Mike.
August 13th Mike sent in export permits.
August 15th Mike received a note from the State Dept saying he needed a letter from me saying the bullets are for personal and target use.
August 17th the State Dept approved the export permit.
Mike was out of town until Sept 22nd.
Sept 23rd Mike shipped the bullets to me.
Sept 30 bullets arrived at my door.
Total cost of 2000 350grain .50 bullets shipped from the States to my door was: $584.11.
Cost for 1000 primers - $42.00
Cost for 1000 bullets - $292.06
Cost for powder for 1000 bullets - $124.41
Total cost for 1000 Desert Eagle .50AE bullets - $458.47
I didn't include .50AE cases so that's .46 cents per round. .50AE cases can be had for around .40 to .50 each.

I purchased 200 .50AE rounds at the beginning of the year for $585 shipped to my door. That was $2.93 per round. Reloading .50AE makes quite a difference.
Here's a pic of some of the bullets. I threw in a 9mm round for comparison.

What a palaver you should think about casting your own.

It really wasn't that hard or troublesome to do. In fact it was harder writing that whole thing out than it was to actually get the bullets.:D Being a new owner of the DE, and hearing all the doom and gloom stories about problems using lead in it, I wanted to keep lead away from it for at least a little while.

Mercury0 0, Thats exactly it. Obviously a part of the barrel extends into the chamber to allow that pin to hold it together. Once again it is on there super tight and requires hard hitting, in fact I started to deform the bottom of the lug when I wasn't hitting it squarely for a bit. Also it looks like your finish was applied to the barrel as a unit and might not look the same when reassembled. I only did it to prove a point and wasn't really expecting success, so only do it if you have to. I can see why it is a factory procedure.

So Mr. Hunchak do you have any bullets suitable for the DE? I almost bought one many moons ago off a friend. I found out what he paid for ammo and I said NO WAY!

I just came back from the range after testing my loads through the chronograph. The results of the tests are below as well as some video. I managed to capture some really nice flames. Some of the stills are posted below too.
I had a few shots that were 3000fps so I removed them from the string. I think the shock wave was moving the chrono and skewing the results.

Mercury, what range is that? I live in Langley and I'm not a huge fan of shooting my pistol at my gun club here... It's inside and the old people get mad at me because my Glock is too loud...
