Got my first deer, five point white tail buck near kamloops, BC. Unfortunately did not get a good rack for mounting, as even though i hit both lungs and the heart, it did a 50m dash, busting off one of the antlers.

Good stuff.

Keep the antlers for yourself.

It is amazing how much ground they can cover with the lungs/heart hit.

I shot both I got last year in the head. Less tracking that way. :p

(both under 30M)

Congrats!

Went up a few k out of town on Leonie Creek FSR. Had been up there on and off for the past week or so, shooting grouse. It all started off as deer hunting, but, not seeing a deer, moved onto the next most available thing.

Today was a last minute trip up with a friend, the guy who has gotten me into hunting. We went to an area where I had seen 4 white tail a week prior, and he had seen some within the last 2 days. All of the time, on a dead run.

Today we spotted a doe in a clearing as travelling on the road just prior to the spot where we were going to get out, and wait. We stopped, and watched. Apparantly we should have known that there was a buck as the doe repeatedly looked over her shoulder towards him.

By the time we got out of the vehicle, after realizing that there was the buck, it was too late. They ran off. Tim, my hunting buddy, tried to flush them out past a slash pile where i had setup, but it was no use, at 100 y at a dead run, it was impossible to see which one had antlers.

I went down the road, came back up through the bush, and found my buck standing in a field about 250y out. I am not going to say that i went for that shot, because i didnt. I crept my way up the tree line, and took the shot at about 100 yards. It took me a few times of raising the rifle before I pulled it, man I was shaking! Has to be sure it had antlers, and was a white tail too.

i took the shot with my Tikka T3 Varmint in .308 using Federal Fusion 180 Gr's. From all of the advertising..... it should have dropped on the spot. The deer went about 50y, where I found it, 2 lungs hit, as well as the heart.

Now it has 5 points, including the brow tine, which apparantly you count on a white tail? Looks more like a 3 point to me though

Went back to his place, skinned it, hung it, and due to the temp, going to butcher it up tomorrow morning

What the hell did he run into hard enough to bust off an antler? 50 yards is not bad since you were already pushing him a bit. Good for you stalking in to a range you felt comfortable instead of winging one from where you were.

As for the buck fever..... for some it gets better, but if settling the cross hairs on a buck ever stops making my heart pound in my ears and causing my hands to shake, I think I'll give up hunting.
