got my first Enfield today *pics added*

I don't think its a Globco, they tended to take off all the markings and used a different front sight. the ones I've seen anyways.

The front sight looks like a Parker Hale I have but I thought they had barrel mounted rear sights but I'm not familiar with all the different grades.

I've just started looking into collecting nice examples of sporterized enfields.
 
What he has there is a sporterized No.4Mk1/2 Maltby.

assuming i've read the other replies, that means it's a Mk1 action and barrel and the stock is a Mk 2 correct? so a mag for a No. 4 Mk1 will be the one i need. and Maltby is the manufacturer or is that the model?


Last time I checked, Marstar had some post-war Faz made No.4 mags, also P&S Militaria appears to have some loose mags for sale at the moment.

Keep collecting and researching and you'll get there.

I think I've forgotten more then I remember now and I've only been seriously at it for about 5 years. :D

I'm now working more on the oddballs and factory sporters to really round out the collection.

Not exactly. It means that a No.4Mk1 action was "upgraded" the Mk2 specification by brazing a trigger support onto the receiver and milling the trigger guard to no longer support the trigger. On previous version of that rifle, the trigger was not physically mounted on the receiver, it was mounted to the trigger guard and pivoted against a sear mounted on the receiver.

The Mk2 specification came about to ensure the relationship between trigger and sear would never change, wheras on the mk1, changes in temerature and humidity could, under some circumstances, change the trigger pull.

A Mk2 will therefore have an altered receiver, different forestock, and different trigger guard than a Mk1. Magazines for both models are interchangable.

Don't see any reason to reblue it, but you can do the woodwork . You have to remove that screw in the forend if it has a hung trigger because the screw fouls the trigger mount on a No4Mk1/2, No4 Mk 1/3, or No4Mk2
Easy way to check, remove the trigger guard, if the trigger comes with it you have a No4Mk1, if it doesn't you have the other. Loosen front guard screw first and then remove rear screw. Assemble in reverse order beecause the front screw puts tension on the guard and can make the rear screw difficult to temove.
Restoring it to military configuration would involve rebarreling and thats way too much to spend.
