Haven't been much of a turkey hunter but with the new job it offers me lots of time off. So I thought I'd get into it a little more this year. My buddy just started hunting last year, so he was more than eager to get out. We spent about 2 weeks scouting our area and had a few good spots lined up to start.

Got to forest at 4am, at our spot by 4:30 and heard some good gobbling at 5:40. We got the guns loaded and gave out a few calls. We figured we had 6 or 7 birds calling back to us from all different directions. Had a nice tom with his girl come in but not close enough for a shot and walked off. Short time later we had 2 jakes come storming in to visit the dekes. And well needless to say they were both put to rest at 20 yards from the barrel. These birds were the first ever turkeys my buddy and I have ever shot. Not a bad way to pop the cherry so to speak! lol

Nice birds lots of activities up where I live .........opening day going to work had one pop out right in the middle of the paved highway otherwise no luck yet

Congrats...I'm really interested in finding out how they taste compared to domestic growth hormone inhanced turkeys that we buy in the supermarket . Please don't tell me that you're saving them for Christmas, eat them now and let us all know how they taste. :)

Congrats guy's. Great looking jakes. Nice picture too. Bet your both turkey addicts now :). My first turkey was a jake too, & I'll never forget it.

My wife just saw your pic and said "Tell them that's a nice picture!"

Congrats from us both!

Yupper those are head'n for the table. Nice shooting with the gun and the camera.
gitrdone! they taste the same as grocery store ones only concentrated you might say. Being as these ones are 12months old instead of 12weeks old they are a bit chewier especialy the drumsticks;) They don't get any less chewy as them spurrs grow longer :D

Mine is in the oven as we speak! Hope its as good as everyone says it is. My buddy(the guy on the left) even got an invite for the dinner! Good friend I am eh lol

I'll let ya guys know how good it was!

Well, I ate my jake and boy it was good! I'm not a big fan of white meat from "butterballs", I find it to be quite dry and just stuck with the dark meat. The white meat on this guy was so moist I couldn't get enough of it! Did find the dark to be a bit chewy but tolerable. Not too bad for my first wild bird.

Man I’ve been trying to find land around south eastren Ontario. Most crown is over hunted from what I’ve heard, and I don’t have to many connections to private land.

Man that guy on the left looks like my old neighbor Andrew!

good pic!

crazy he is my old neighbour... man he use to take me fishing when I was 8-13 or so, close to a decade ago! Guy never took my turkey hunting though :p!
