Got my SKS!!! (Pics Up)

Maybe this is a dumb question but it's still one I need answered. He mentioned that this is considered a military type rifle. If there was a black rifle/military type rifle ban like what was suggested by the liberals would the SKS fall under that category?

They are 50 years old!!! Everyone of us would like a brand new one, but they are all going to have a ding or two. Wait and buy one off EE after people start selling theirs.

Libs have clearly and repeatedly stated that they wish to ban all semi autos regardless of type.

Hey I am looking for a non-restricted military type rifle that I can go hunting with should the need arise. Mostly I am looking for a fun semi-auto plinker that I can shoot high volumes of ammo through and has a nice set of military open sights.

This brought me to the SKS, so I have been looking into them for the past few weeks and trying to learn as much as possible. I have a few questions about what to look for and what I can expect when I get one.

Where can I find a nice example that is in excellent to mint condition, if not brand new, that will shoot well?

How much should I be looking at spending for one in excellent to new shape?

I know I want a Russian SKS-45 or Yugoslavian M59 with hardwood stocks and blued metal.

Where can I find a brand new or like new condition Russian SKS-45 or Yogoslavian M59?? I dont really like the idea of buying a used gun blindly and will likely not be happy with the condition of a Bell shipment gun.

Savage-man, why in the name of hell would you want a pristine condition rifle to use for plinking and hunting ("should the need arise") ? We're talking like under 300 bucks here. If it's gonna break, it'll break whether you use it, or the guy before you used it. SKS's can take quite a bit of punishment and are meant to be shot out of. I've seen some crappy condition SKS's that have had very good accuracy. You pay for what you get. However, in my eyes, only an idiot would buy a mint 'brand new' pristine military rifle for hunting.

So an idiot would buy a brand new rifle for hunting?? You must realize how crazy this sounds. I am a guy who takes care of my rifles, I do understand you point about new rifles in the woods, yes they will get banged and dinged.

Being that I look after my rifles it just kills me to get a rifle that is marred and scratched knowing that I coulda prevented half of those scrapes. I just wanna give myself the best chance possible to have a mint rifle to keep for a lifetime and hey if I drop it or scratch it, that I can live with.

Im just trying to aquire one in the best shape possible, if it cost me $100 more that I will gladely pay it!!!

It's not as crazy as it sounds. Why not buy a hunting rifle, if you want it for hunting?

If you're aware that the rifle you plan to buy, will get damaged when hunting, then what's it matter if the stock has a few knicks in it? If the bore is great and there's no rust, what's it matter?

It seems that for what you want this particular rifle for, you're better off buying a hunting rifle.

I'm not name calling. However, I am saying that anyone who purchases a mint, 'brand new' (if there's such a thing) milsurp for hunting and plinking and risks getting scratches and knicks on it, then yes, that person is an idiot.

Buy a used SKS with a good bore, or buy a hunting rifle.

I think you need to call. I saw a post of theirs just recently that stated the got a bunch. Their SVT 40's were/are real slow getting on their web page as well, but apparently they're there.

cant speak for SVT but the russian SKS was listed and sold immediately last month.

He said "brand new MILITARY rifle" not brand new rifle...

I shouldn't have to explain myself as to why I want a rifle that is in pristine or mint condition! I only plan to own one SKS and plan to shoot it quite a bit, it would pain me to look at a rifle that is scratched or marred knowing that I didn't do it.

Yes you can call me an idiot or crazy for buying a mint condition SKS and taking it out to the range or the bush. I am only planning on buying one and never selling it, so I couldnt give a damn if shooting it lowers its value cause it will never be for sale!!!

If this takes me longer to find then "so be it", you guys enjoy your SKS's and I appreciate your thoughts. Well the earlier ones anyways.

Don't really know if you understand about Mil-Surps or not Savage Man. Even in un-issued ones, there are no perfects like the day they left the line. You'll not find one that looks like a new gun off the shelf at your favorite Gunstore. All will have bumps, bruises, scratches, gouges of some type, even the best of them.

Listen I shouldn't have to explain myself as to why I want a rifle that is in pristine or mint condition!
Ok...

Flashback.

Lay off the :onCrack: !

I would, but I might get a warning :D

You still aren't providing a logical reasoning behind paying more for a pristine rifle, only to self-depreciate it's value, when you can save some money and buy one that you're only gonna shoot the sh*t out of anyway. Shooters grade SKS's are in pretty good shape.

What you're talking about, would be something that would be collectable, be an SKS or any other milsurp. Why would you shoot a collectable and bring it around in the woods?

Again, lay off the :onCrack: . And if you don't want people's opinions on your retardedly wacky ideas, then don't post them on the world-wide web!

I do know quite a bit about Milsurps and I understand that they will have bumps and bruises on them, there is no getting around that. I just do not like the idea of buying a used rifle without seeing at least some good pics of it first. Im sure my thinking will change as soon as I start drooling over some of these IZH's that you guys are gonna get in.

I think I missed the bandwagon on the IZH shipment, I am really after a birch stock and blued metal in the best possible re-furbished condition. Its gonna be a shooter so matching numbers arn't important just condition is.
