Got Stuck While Out Bear Hunting... :(

It is the only road that I was on that wasn't gravel and that is the only part of the road that looks like this.

don't you recognize the old burn in the first picture that fire was in 98...

:)

I recognize that area as well, some decent muley hunting in that area.I got stuck last weekend as well, took me me four hours of digging and another truck to get out. Some of the blackest ,smelliest mud I've ever seen. We're having one of our wettest springs ever in this area.

You were lucky. I got stuck in a blown road (damn beavers) at my hunting camp, 75 km in the deep woods from the closest village... the truck was sucked in the mud (sort of quicksand) and didn't want to move.. GF was not able to even move the truck with her Vitara, even when swinging up the "slingshot" (dynamic sling)... needed something heavy to move it and I've been lucky enough to hook someone on CB who had a satellite phone... ended up costing 450.00 $ for a tow truck ... wich took about two hours and a half to reach me.. well, not so bad I guess..

I'm sorry, but that is too funny not to quote.

That Lewis Winch needs a remote. I don't like the idea of standing beside a winch. I've seen steel winch cables break loose and they spring back towards the winch almost as fast as you can blink an eye.

Doesn't draping a coat or blanket midway over the wire eliminate that threat?

Not sure, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I've done that as a precaution (put a blanket or tarp over a winch cable), but never had the misfortune of testing how adequately it suppresses the flying winch cable, snatchblock, clevis, etc. Its probably wise to do, but what I'm saying is I don't know whether it eliminates the risk, or simply modifies it. The initial risk is high, I saw a clevis fly about 50 yards back to a truck and it travelled at probably 200mph. So fast that you'd see if coming, but not even be able to move.

but yes the best way is not to get stuck in the first place.

judging by these pics id hope that most people would have backed out way before it got that bad. when you dont have others to tow you out or a winch on your rig its best to keep it in 2wd and use 4x4 to save your ass rather than givin er in 4x4 til your stuck...

I'm sure glad I'm not your 3 yr old son.

Who knows what the hell you'll do next ?

Dummy down. This is why we have so many rules etc.

Truth hurts.

TAKE IT REALLY EASY WHEN YOU HAVE CHILDREN WITH YOU !!!

you're kidding right?

my dad used to take me on prospecting trips when I was a kid. We got stuck all the time. Great memories.

The ones dummied down are the kids in Chuck-E-Cheese, not the ones bear hunting with their dads.

Now that is one of the most mor*nic out of touch armchair quarterback statement that I have read in a long time you haven't a clue of the situation and you pass judgment on me like that...

Amazing absolutely freaking amazing... :p

When a son was in a low elementary grade in school, I took him on a couple day trip hunting a grizzly bear.
He missed a day of school. When the teacher asked him why he hadn't been at school the day before, he kind of shook up the class, to say nothing of the lady teacher. He replied, "I was with my dad hunting grizzly bears!"

Do you always run around screaming "Think of the children"? :runaway:

From what I have seen of Camp Cook on this forum I think he is more than capable of looking after HIS child. I'll bet is was fun!

ha ha When u were 3 yrs old u could remember prospecting with your Dad.

I'm talkin' about a 3 yr old not a 5 or 8yr old man come on.

Jeez why are we so sensitive I didn't post the goofy story.

Some of my best memories with my dad involved excursion where vehicles got stuck, boats capsized, and all sorts of mayhem that goes hand in hand with venturing out.
