Got to love the 17HMR

4 shot groups (because that's what the mags hold) but this was only 45 yards or so.....whatever the Phoenix range is.

Needless to say, I like my 17HMR!

Nice shooting.

I'm going to try some Hornady ammo this weekend :)

Just pick up another one already. You know you want to.

I am sure its louder then a hmr. When the hmr/22mag is the loudest gun you can use in an area blasting off 20+grains of powder is going to be pretty loud.

I am using less than 20 gr of powder in the 20 Vartarg, and if you find the Vartarg loud, you won't find the Hmr to be quiet.

Nice, never even had to adjust my scope. I had it sighted in with the Winchester and tried the Hornady, both have same point of impact. Breaking clays at 200 yards no problem.

17 HMR is still within most people's "no need for hearing protection" threshold. Add in the advantages of not being pushed around as much by wind and the extended reach - absolute top pick for recreational pest control!
I don't even bother bringing a .22 LR when shooting gophers.

I don't have a set of caliper's yet, but I did this with the above rifle at 200 yards. Still can't explain that one shot in the bull, can only assume the wind let off as I was squeezing the shot. I'll take solace in the fact that I can headshot a gopher 3/5 times at 200yards with the way the rifle is right now, that's good enough for me. I'll get out to the range again when the weather isn't -F'ingCold outside and try again.

Exactly. Plus where I shoot most of my gophers and such anything more then the hmr and livestock are taking off and breaking fences. Longest shot with a 22 way 78 yards open sights. Shots are normally 3 feet to 200 yards and the hmr does that nicely.

~$15/50 rounds for Hornady Vmax.

Crappy Winchesters can be had for $10/50. But be prepared to deal with split casings.

I guess if this rim fire shortage keep persistiing, it won't be long before the price of the two will
be at par?
Dang.............dang................dang..............need to make sumrewm under thuh matt-tressz.
