I have a Lincoln No2 shotgun and I was wondering what i should be putting on the hinge? I was directed toward "Shooter's Choice" but this is not available in Canada as it seems and i don't feel like paying $25 to ship a $9 tube of grease. What are we using here north of the border? Seal fat? ATF? Vaseline? Semen? i was using REM OIL but was told to use a grease instead.

Thanks

Any lubricant will do. Some use oil most use grease. Just about any grease will do. I'm currently using Permatex White Lithium Grease from Canadian Tire. It comes in a little squeeze tube, is easy to apply and fits into the gun case.

The important part is to clean and replace the grease after every outing. Otherwise the grease gathers dirt and a lubricant becomes an abrasive.

The only real high stress point on a shotgun is the chamber and breach face, the rest on the mechanics don't require anything bordering on a high pressure. Regular black moly suspension grease is all I've used on guns for years, ATF on any surface that an oil is needed.

Agree totally, the big advantage of using grease where possible, rather then oil is that it tends to stay where it is placed.
Oil can migrate to the stock and damage the wood if too much is applied.

I use the stuff Beretta supplies ... tubes of an Italian anti-gall black grease. Formerly used some blue hinge grease that Kreighoff supplied, a red grease from Top Gun and STOS, (slipperier than owl s**t) a clear synthetic grease from Ponsness/Warren. G-96 for wipe down.

YouTube power factor show, they have a really good two part episode on the cleaning of a beretta over under and cover off areas to grease
